Has Your Spouse Benefitted From Your WLS?

Recommended Posts

I'm just curious to see if any other WLS person has had their spouse change his/her eating/exercising habits along with you, and benefitted by becoming healthy along with you? My husband has lost 50 pounds over the last nine months. He exercises 6 days a week now (we work out together on the weekends) and he eats a whole lot less food..... doesn't rat second helpings, never Snacks anymore, and making great food choices. He has been my rock throughout this past year and as happy as he is for me..... I am as happy for him and proud of him!!!!

That is awesome that your hubby is so supportive and has reaped the benefits of your surgery, so to speak!!

My hubby is SO supportive too and I am truly blessed! He continues to be a snacker but never really gains any weight...arrgh! LOL . He has about 15 pounds he plays with...we have become more conscious at the dinner table though and plate the food in the kitchen since my surgery instead of bringing all the bowls to table. Stops both of us from mindless 2nd's/picking and it does make him think twice before getting up and getting more.

Once Spring finally arrives in NY, can't wait!!!, we will go for walks as a family with our two little ones...so that is always an added benefit!

Thanks for sharing your successes....way to go! :D

And ABSOLUTELY LadyBandito!!!

My wife went on a health food kick a year after which has benefitted us both. She was only overweight by 25 lbs and has lost 20 lbs of that excess weight.

Yes! My husband had started walking a lot a few months before my surgery and when I decided to get the band he said he would do my liquid preop diet with me. Well, he did, and I was amazed that he stuck to it. I was prepared to do this alone. I planned on eating better but not necessarily making huge changes and I thought eventually I would exercise. Well, together, we became obsessed with changing our eating habits. And we go to the gym together 4 days a week. He's lost 50 and I've lost 40. It has been so great for our relationship. And it's nice to have someone I can talk to all the time about choices. Also, we keep each other on track during hard times with cravings. Lovin it!

My daughter eats healthier as a result and she is beginning to exercise with me. My S/O benefits in other ways :).

In the sense that he finally got his wife back, one who wants and CAN go out and do things with him? Definitely! In a weight loss or health since? Not so much...haha. Yes, he's going to the gym with me all the time, but he had already started doing that on his own before I had my band. Unfortunately, he's kind of become my living, walking, breathing garbage disposal. If I can't finish my meal, he takes over for me. He told me a few nights ago that he's gained ten pounds since my surgery, so he's going to quit eating my left overs and he's already started making better food choices for himself. He came home last night WANTING a salad, which is uncommon for him.

No because my husband is a bean pole and buys ice cream non stop. Sometimes I see a funeral in his near future lmao

My husband is skinny - 6'3 and weighs about 175. WTH - but he is super sweet & supports me 100%. He has benefited by my weight loss in more ways than one :) and he is proud of me - he says that I am his trophy wife - ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha - lol

My husband refers to me as his first wife, which technically I am but it does give pause. He has definitely lost some weight, but for him that's just skipping a little of the snacking here and there and off it comes. So irritating but I'm used to it after all these years. This is a season of comfort eating and we are both noticing how much that has been a part of our lives. Those habits of munching through the evening, etc. We have a teenaged son and both of them are definitely benefiting from my newly-banded life as they get the extras. And they are both stepping up to do more of the food prep because there's just not as much going on now. I am not just about the food anymore and if they are hungry they are realizing the chef might not be on duty. She is fickle, that one.

Ah my hubby and I benefited together. We both were banded at the same time. Our family dynamic has changed in that we eat more home cooked meals. Often times my husband will cook if I am at work and he is home or if I am home early or on a weekend we will cook something up together.

It's a win win win in my book!

My Wife and I are band-mates. I was the guinea pig who had surgery first in April 2012. She got the same band (Realize) in September 2013. We used to eat out constantly seeing we had no children to feed but now it is home cooked meals and it is amazing the money we save now. Not only are we not eating out we don't spend as much in the grocery store. :)

my husband is of normal weight and can eat just about anything. if anything has happened because of my wls is that I might be making him fat. I am a cook. I love chopping, slicing and dicing. I love to explore and make up recipes. when I am in that mood and am hungry he gets my cooking full board. he isn't a big eater, skinny ppl aren't so when I bring him a platter of food to eat since I can't eat it he just laughs at me. poor dear, he tries so I would feel satisfied of cooking a good meal.

My husband was about 45 lbs overweight. Wore most of it around his belly. He's a solid 32 pants now. Lost 35 so far and is working on the last 5. His biggest motivation is daughter is getting married in June and he will walk her down the isle. His only suit was way to tight and I told Hume he would walk buff before we were spending money on a suit to hang in the closet. He tried the suit on and viola! He said the other 5 lbs will make it hang better and I agree. He brags that with my surgery we got a twofer. Now I just wish I could show him what sliming feels like:)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
