Survey - Carbonated Drinks? Do u drink them?

Recommended Posts

I know I certainly can't drink them now being 8 days post op but I was wondering if anyone drinks soda (diet) once in a while?

i have a friend who had her surgery 4 yrs ago an is just now able to sip on a little diet coke from time to time. I think it has to do with bubbles

My wife (a physician) always told me that she would rather you have a full calorie soda, and just budget those calories into your daily caloric intake than drink diet soda because it was so bad for you

I am a week post OP. I gave up soda during the pre-OP diet phase. I'm hoping one of the beneficial side effects of this surgery is no longer drinking soda

My aunt had the surgery and would drink soda frequently.

My surgeon's office didn't say whether or not we can have soda, but there is a nutritional board that shows all recommended foods and portions. Coke is on the list but only a small amount.

Honestly, I believe in everything in moderation and to not make things a habit. You know yourself better than anyone so if you know the food / drink will spiral you back into your old ways, don't have it.

I'm 7 weeks out, I never was a big soda drinker unless eating meals, that's what bothers me the most not drinking while I eat. Anyway I might have a coke freeze or slushy, just a few sips to take care of the craving and that does not bother me at all, other than that's I don't try regular soda to scared of the gas effect.

We had to attend a "Success Habits" (based on the book by Colleen Cook) workshop prior to surgery... in that seminar, Anisa put a balloon over a carbonated beverage bottle...it blew up just from the carbonation (i don't think she even shook it)!!!! She said the last time she did this, she kept it on her desk to see how long the balloon lasted...it was 3 days before it started to deflate...THREE DAYS!!! So, NO to carbonation...now and forever... even my husband quit it, and feels better as a result.

Try it yourself... be "Mr(s). Science" and see what happens, and translate that to your tummy

S T R E T C H!! :(

Hmm. A balloon isn't your stomach nor is a sealed balloon representative of your digestive track after surgery :) Not sure how "sciencey" this is.

In any case I'm asking myself some of the same questions as the OP as I get ready for my surgery. My question is more around soda Water as I love using my Soda Stream to make it. I never drink "sodas" themselves anymore but I do like soda Water with something like a zipfizz or emergenC added in for Vitamins and flavor.

I was told carbonation stretches out the pouch or sleeve, not worth it!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
