Hi everyone!

My name is Shannon. I am 26 years old. I live in New Hampshire. I've been obese my entire life, since i was 15-16 really. I am 4'11 and about 217 lbs. My BMI is 43.8!! I also have hypothyroidism, mostly unmanaged my adult life due to lack of insurance. This and some less than stellar eating habits have led to my weight problem. I have tried many programs through the years with minimal to no success. I am really hoping this will be it for me.

I have spent the past 2 monthis pouring over this site and others, gathering information to help me make a decision and i have decide to go with gastric bypass. I am taking the first step today. The information session offered by my hospital of choice is in just a few short hours ! I am so excited, nervous, anxious, and many more feelings!

Thats it really! Just wanted to say HELLO!!

Thanks Cupcake! I already called my insurance ( Anthem BCBS OH) and they do cover it. That's a relief. Though I don't understand why people who have coverage get denied. Is that usually people under 40 with no comorbidities?

Hello! I have just started out myself. I have my first appointment with the doctor on the 3rd of March. It would of been sooner but I am having surgery on my spine on Thursday, so I had to put it off for a bit. My insurance only requires a bariatric center of excellence and BMI over 40. I have United Healthcare. You'll find tons of support on this website. I know I am ready for the new me.

Generally when people are denied it is because they haven't met all the requirements, or didn't provide proof of those requirements in the submission. When your doctor's office goes to submit, make sure they include everything in their list of requirements. Then you should be perfectly fine.

I had my first meeting with the surgeon today. I went in to the meeting all gungho about a sleeve, but now I'm on the Bypass page looking at that option. So confused. I may only need to get the psychological eval done because I think I have the structured diet program part complete.

Shannon what lead you to your decision to Bypass verses another procedure?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
