Stretching pouch with liquids?

Recommended Posts

Don't think this is possible but just wanted to confirm. I'm 8 days post op and still on a liquid diet. I have a few times (when I forget) gulped down many swallows of Water or Protein Shake in a row with lout feeling any problems. I try to catch myself as I know this behavior isn't good in the long run but just was wondering if it was possible to stretch the pouch(?) with a large quantity of liquid?

i don't think you can stretch your pouch with liquids. the only problem i can see is if you gulp and have more than a cup of liquid and try and push more in its all just going to come right back up, sorta like what a baby does when it spits up. your pouch empties pretty fast through the band. just try and not gulp liquids.

Really depends upon how much restriction you have and how thick the liquids are....but you are way too early in the game to be worrying out this....there will be more important isuues to learn and get past first, in the coming months....

Gulping is bad becasue as terrydumon sadi, when you gulp liquids, they tend to come back up. Best wihshes, and calm down, okay? Karen..aka.kll724

I am four years post op and I drink fluids straight down. I have never sipped and don't have issues drinking either.

You have very little to worry about. You'll want to change this behavior as you get more fills but for now, you are likely able to gulp liquid because your band isn't very restrictive yet.

Liquids don't bother me either, they normally go straight through. Problem with gulping, you may get a little gassy.

I have never had a problem drinking liquids, even early on. I was scared, at first but found pretty quickly that liquids pass right on through. I drink normally and freely. Liquids don't seem to collect in my stoma, I have never had them pool or come back up and I seriously doubt that they are stretching it in any way.

Drink with confidence. You need the hydration. :D

I was banded in 2007 and only had trouble with liquids when I had something stuck and had to have my band drained. I am a gulpper! List to your band, test it with a few swallows first. I was rebanded yesterday due to 'slipped band'. Why? because of slimming and vomiting. DONT DO THIS!!! Be careful to chew your food to mush!!! and only eat the half cup. I never ate a half cup...more like 1-2 cups. I asked my doctor yesterday about gulping, he said gulping Water is fine. I told him I jog ang gulp Water. I asked about gulping down HOT tea, coffee and he said that's fine and hot is fine too. So I know it's the food that stretches the pounch and causes you trouble.

Swallowing anything was pretty easy early on especially outta surgery.

Now im starting to feel the Fluid sit in my pouch and seap thru, forcing my gulps to become sips.

I think ur fine right now tho.

It would be better if you take care about it. However, you said that you are eight days post op. So, I guess you would be starting pureed food now. I would recommend that you be sure about changing your meal if you are ready for it or not.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
