Sushi/sashimi/handrolls.

Recommended Posts

I'm a huge sushi, sashimi, and hand roll lover that's my favorite food. Since getting the gastric sleeve I have not had it. When I turned 5 weeks I had tuna tataki I made sure it was fully cooked I was able to eat it just fine. This Saturday I will be 8 weeks out and I'm invited to a bday party at a sushi restaurant I know sushi is out the question because of the rice. Did any of you have hand rolls or sashimi at 8 weeks out? I would love a crab hand roll or a oyster hand roll sounds good too but I know it's too soon for that. Hope to hear from some sushi lovers!!!

Raw sashimi is a soft food. Nori and rice are probably more challenge than you need at this point.

I agree with Mitsysj. I go for sushi once a week with my family. I always have just shashimi tuna or salmon with chicken satay, edamame and seaweed salad. Keeping all intake around 4 oz.- 5 oz.

I still stay away from the rice at 7 months to keep my carbs low.

At 8 weeks I ate sashimi and miso Soup and edamame. Even had a touch of ginger pickle on the sashimi.

No rice, noodles, salad, teriyaki (sugars), tempura or other stuff like that this early out. I do eat salad now.

You will be amazed at how little sashimi it takes to fill you up now. Cheap Date.

I'm happy I could eat some sashimi, sashimi and avocado on the side I will be happy.

I've had tuna poke, spicy and sushi without the rice. Both went down well. Seafood seems to go down best for me in general.

I had a conversation with my surgeon about this just today, He said sashimi is a great choice, rice is a no go and to get an app of edamame. He said that the sticky sushi rice with be hard to handle for a long time.

That's good to hear that edamame's are ok because I bought some frozen ones at SAMS since pre op I had them all the time, I have not had any post op. Definitely eating some tomorrow.

I ate 4 pieces of a spicy tuna roll without issue at about 5 weeks.

My sleeve is made of steel though, I've yet to encounter an issue.

When you get a little further down the road, you can buy dried edamame (Crunchamame) which is a great snack. High Protein and salty/crunchy but not bad on the sleeve.

You may also see these labelled as soy nuts. They were the mail reason I got protein at months 3-4 or so!

It does sound amazing but the nori is what scares me.

Lucky! Knock on wood I've yet to eat something that has upsets my sleeve. I'm still scared though mostly of the nori though. They sell skinny rolls w/o rice which later that's what I'll be ordering.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
