An Irishman was terribly overweight, so his doctor put him on a diet.

The doctor said, "I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day, and repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I see you, you should have lost 5 lbs."

When the Irishman returned, the doctor was shocked to see that he had lost 60 lbs!

"Why, that's amazing!", the doctor said, "did you follow my instructions?"

The Irishman nodded... "I'll tell you though, I t'aut I were going to drop dead by dat 3rd day."

"From the hunger, you mean?", asked the doctor.

"No, from the skippin."

I'm all for making weigh-ins, beginning and end of challenge starting and ending on same day of the week. Repetition is a great memory enhancer!

Put my vote down for "Hump Day", Wednesday.

I'm new to the challenge as well, 8 weeks postoperative. Hey Bea, what does border crossings mean in ur post of weights? As for my vote, I agree with the other person who stated whatever's good for you bc ur the one who has to go thru all the posts to find our weight postings, we just ALL need to remember what date u say, and adhere to it and then realize that any posts posted after that day ends won't be used bc ik it has to b a headache for you to have to look for posts after the posting date. Just my opinion and ty 4 the efforts that u put into doing this for us, God Bless:))

Missed last Monday weigh in. I was out on the 20th for Gallbladder removal. I was scared to weigh myself because of all the air they blow into you for surgery. I have been very clean with my diet since the 17th and was happy to see me down 2 pounds today even with last weeks surgery and bloat!

Some of us here have been involved in quite a few challenges over the past few months, but we are also thrilled to have a new batch of Challengers join us for this one. I need to pose a question to the group, both veterans and newbies, before we move on to the next (Easter) challenge. I have always adjusted to challenge weigh-ins to END on the actual holiday. This means that for our next challenge, weigh-ins will be on Sunday. For longer challenges, it seems an okay move as we quickly get into the groove of things and adjust to a different weigh-in day. However, sometimes it [obviously] just gets a bit difficult to remember what day we are supposed to log in. So, I'm posting a set of polling questions to the group here. 1. Would you like the Challenges to continue to end ON the holiday itself, making weigh-ins for them often occur on different days of the week (Easter, SUN, April 20; Memorial Day, MON, May 26; Independence Day, FRI, July 4; etc.)? OR 2. Would you like to pick a "standardized" weigh-in DAY for the next few challenges ? Also, if you select a STANDARDIZED weigh-in day, what day would you prefer? Thanks so much! P.S. I'm not quite sure how to vote on this one myself (LOL!), but I'll try to post my own answer soon.

#1 the actual holiday makes the most sense- if people can't remover the day then they can post when they do remember if that's easiest for them.

I like the idea of a continuing weigh in day. Not that I can't remember when to weigh in, but just like to keep it simple. If I were to pick a day, I would say Friday. It's nice to weigh in before the weekend!

Just to make the challenges a little more fun, I try to watch for people that have crossed from one "decade" (10 lbs group) on the scale to another. For instance, I've got my fingers crossed that my Monday weigh-in will reflect my crossing from the 200s to the 190s, which carries a double-whammy as it also passes a "century" (100 lbs group) mark and puts me solidly in "Onederland".

My first weigh-in had me at 206.4 and my second at 200.2. While that was a BIG deal for me (I average 1.5 lbs per week losses right now) it didn't cross any "borders" as they are both between 200 and 210. This coming Monday however? Well, watch out because I think I have a BIG border crossing to record as I move into the 190s. Highlighting people that have moved from one group and across the "border" into the next is just a way of making things a little more fun.

Ty for explaining, that's pretty cool. And I certainly pray that you cross the border in a big way as well;) cya Monday, fingers crossed xxxxx! !

You can do it Bea!!

I vote for whatever option is easiest for you! If we pick a day, I like Mondays because it keeps me accountable over the weekends. No matter which option, I think its kinda fun for the final weigh in to be the actual holiday.

Hmm...now that's an option I didn't even think of! I'll wait a bit for votes to come in, but I could easily see that we have a regular weigh-in day on a specific day of the week for every challenge with the FINAL weigh-in being on the day of the holiday, no matter what day it lands on. Hmm...that may be my favorite option yet. Thanks!

P.S. Keep in mind that all of you have the option of weighing in on whatever day you choose. I sign in pretty much every day, just after I log my food in MyFitnessPal, so checking in here is part of my daily routine. If we choose FRIDAYS and you prefer MONDAYS, then by all means, report your weight every Monday. It's all fun, it's all about progress, and we have no strict rules. Still, I think we are down to selecting a consistent weigh-in day to begin with the next challenge. Thanks for all the feedback and conversation.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
