Will I need help post-op?

Recommended Posts

Hi there

Surgery is on Monday, so excited and nervous! I'll be in the hospital for 2 nights and my husband will be with me the day I come home. Wondering if you think the next day I'd need help or I can get up and manage myself (for drinks and potty breaks really)? I wasn't planning on him staying home from work and my kids will be at school. What do you all think? Same for Friday too? Thank you!

My surgery was Monday morning, I came home Tuesday night. It's just me and my son. Wednesday morning his dad took him to school and I was okay on my own. I'd get up and walk around the house, drink, take meds and go back to bed, repeat. Hopefully you have a back up to call in case of any issue, but I was/am okay.

I agree with jlmckee. You should be fine. Your abdomen will be very tender and using a pillow to hold tightly against it helped me get up and down with more ease...some get abdominal binders for that purpose before leaving the hospital. My mom stayed the night with me the first night home just in case to (it eased her mind), but it was not necessary. Best wishes to you!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
