Day 2 of liquids and Im hungry

Recommended Posts

Hi I am on my 4th day liquids and drinking lot's of Water, crystal light, Protein drinks, beef or chicken broth, popsicles, Jello and I have to agree with you all, it's truly a challenge. My surgery will be a week from today and the day prior to surgery will be strictly clear fluids. I want to chew so I end up chewing gum. At least after surgery I can graduate to cream Soups.

I am halfway through my 3rd week of the preop diet. I was only supposed to do 2 weeks, but my insurance company is taking forever to give me an authorization so my surgery was postponed. My surgeon wants me to stay on the preop diet until my surgery date. If you had told me that 2 1/2 weeks ago I would have had a heart attack. I was so worried and upset about the preop diet but it's turning out to not really be that bad. The first 4 days were awful with brain fog and headaches from the carb detox. But after the 4th day I began to feel better and my hunger went away. I am allowed Protein shakes, calorie free beverages, sugar free jello/ice pops, and green veggies, but I admit that I've been cheating a bit by eating egg whites. I figure since they're pure Protein without any carbs or fat that they should be OK. I have lost 13 pounds so far so something must be going right.

You can do this! :)

Girl, my pre op diet has 2 phases, yesterday was day 1 of phase one (low cal, no carb) I was freaking starving and a crazy be-otch all night. I had some serious doubts about even being able to survive post surgery. I know where you're coming from!! I am scared of the liquid phase

I haven't been sleeved yet, I'm hungry in the liquid pre op diet

Those of u who get meals or veggies r very lucky!! I am chewing ice and gum like im crazy! Lol

Cant wait for surgery tho! So excited

I am on day 4 of my 21 day all liquid diet - surgery is on 2/10/14. Days 1 & 2 were really hard for me - headache, hard to concentrate on my work, tired, irritable. On Day 3 I was nauseous in the morning. Day 4 - I am not hungry and I feel pretty darned good. The night before I started the liquid diet I made a batch of veggie Soup that my MD said I could have 2-3 cups of per day. On days 1 & 2 I waited until I was hungry for dinner, had 2 cups and I was full / happy. I need a break from the veggie Soup and have been drinking 98% fat free cream of chicken soup made with fat free milk and it makes me very happy. I am surprised at how good I feel and how not hungry I am. Of course my husband has been super supportive and has not been eating near me - smells are hard! This is a sacrifice we made in order to change our lives. I keep repeating in my head - eat to live there is no more living to eat!

I am still in the preliminary stages of getting approval but my biggest fear is the ore-op liver shrinking diet. I know how I have been in some of my previous diets. I am likely to rip someone's head off by the end of the first week but perhaps because I know there is an "end game" in sight I'll be able to get through.

I'm excited for you, keep up the good work.

Day 3: liquid Diet

I'm not hungry b/c:

1) My gut is in shock that I bought 3 cases of Premier Protein shakes at costco (they were on sale) and I' not fond of them.

2) I cheated last night and had Thai Green Curry Pork with Thai rice.

I had planned to put the curry on top of my kale salad but scooped the rice while the salad wasn't looking.

Sigh.

I can only tolerate one premier shake per day by adding instant espresso. Not cheating and no headache.

My other shake I make in a magic bullet: frozen berries/0% greek yogurt/ Protein powder and milk.

I tried skim milk today but it didn't fly. I'm a 2% girl.

Does anyone think the extra 2.5 grams of fat from 2% is problematic?

Salad with chicken or fish or egg for dinner.

I love this forum. I've been in the self-pay Mexico part for 3 months, now I've graduated to the pre-op section. woohoo

Soon we'll all be in the post-op section!

I'm excited and happy to meet all you liquid diet peeps.

Wendy

To the posters who have been on liquids longer than 2 weeks, I feel your pain.

I'm 6 weeks post op! It is really hard not to be hungry! For me I ate such large amount of foods for so long....even now after being sleeved I'm hungry! My stomach's not hungry but my head is. I got lucky with my pre op diet...I only had to do it for a week. 24 hours before surgery Clear Liquids only!! It was torture too, in the hotel my family was eating pizza, hot wings, etc. while I was drinking chicken broth!! :) Hang in there!

Made it thru day 3 with no cheating. phew!

Crystal light helped. Tastes pretty good too.

Check out "The Shrinking Liver" on Youtube.

It shows fantastic animation of a liver shrinking and how it gives greater access to the stomach pouch.

Not gross.

I will be starting my pre-op diet (10 days) on Saturday. However, in addition to the Protein Shakes and crystal lite, etc. I am allowed a lean Protein and a serving of vegetables every day until the 24 hours before surgery. I don't know how I will do. I am definitely worried about shakes, dizziness and that hypoglycemic feeling I can get when I don't eat enough. I have to be able to function at work! I appreciate the post-op people saying it is worth it. Good luck, you are not alone!

Is your pre-op only 10 days??

Here's a shrinking liver video, it's just a looping animation and it's quite tame.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
