Hi

I'm from Perth, had my surgery 11 months ago & have lost 37 am at my goal weight but maybe another 5. I am slack when it comes to exercise but keep busy & always on the go. It's the best thing I have ever done for myself.

You are going to love it. It will change your life. It will be hard at first but you will be so glad you did it. Who's your doctor?

I'm still not losing weight very fast but I see how well the gals from my town are doing and how fun it is for them. It is life changing. As for me....sloooow and steady but it's coming off, about one lb a week or one kg every two weeks.

A little nervous about it at the moment, i have to do 4 weeks of Optifast before the operation so just getting through that will be challenge enough. Need to find a couple of ways to spice it up, i get 4 optifast a day and 2 cups of starch free vegies

Yes - the pre- op diet is a challenge. Just keep your eye on the prize and tick off each day that you get through. The first 3-4 days are difficult but after that you will get into the 'zone' . When ketosis starts, I bought a non alcohol mouth wash from the chemist - they say they work better than Listerine. Your mouth will feel like the bottom of a bird cage - with the feathers - so your breath might not be great! You might want to warn people about that as it can be a bit embarrassing - everyone is different so see how you go. Good luck - this is a short term pain for a long term.. weight loss! The best thing I ever did!

Hi Voo

I had surgery 5 Feb last year with Dr Armstrong, he is very good so you are in safe hands. The first day was the worst but after that you start to feel better every day.

I have reached the goal weight he set for me but would like to loose about another 4/5 kilos but not too worried about it.i feel fantastic & it was the best thing I could of done for myself.

Hope it al goes well for you.

Karen

I am also from Perth. Sleeved 22 of Nov '13' by Dr Dolan. I've lost about 20kgs so far.. Its definitely a lot of hard work & is a tool that needs 100% commitment if you want the results.

No regrets at all, but in the first 6-8 weeks you definitely go through the "what have I done to myself" ... And the head hunger of thinking you could go for a larger portion sized meal when in reality you can only eat very little & if you push it you will vomit (not a pleasant experience).. I've learn my full feeling.

At the moment I've been noticing my hair falling out :( anyone else getting this symptom 12 weeks out? It's frustrating .. Any tips?

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
