Let's talk scabs and scars! Oooh! Aaah!

Recommended Posts

Did that topic title entice anyone? My DH is sick of me showing him by brownish/reddish scabs on my stomach. (Odd, huh? He used to think I was sexy!) I am hoping you will indulge me in this conversation since I really am interested. My longish scar has lost some of its scab, while the little ones remain intact. The scar underneath looks pink and looks like it might fade. I guess it doesn't matter because my bikini plans were dashed by stretch marks. LOL! :D I s'pose there's always laser treatments. Anyway, my question is...did your scars fade? How long did it take? I am one month out tomorrow.

Best,

Amy

At about one year out my scars were indistinguishable. You had to have know I had them and where they were at to notice. As they say, "A trotting horse would have never noticed."

I was pretty good about putting the scar "cream" on. Just a generic ointment I got at Walgreens. Not the fancy $25 stuff. I think the bottom line is to keep them moist whilst healing and not picking them early out.

I believe the biggest factor, though, is knowing your own history of scaring. Some folks with lighter or darker tone seem to have their scars show more. I am definitely more of the fairer shade of neutral tone. Also, my scars don't "cord" up, meaning they a relatively thin and the scar tissue doesn't build up very much.

I have two thoughts on your post about scars.

1. Twice I have had other laparoscopic surgery and on both of them you could not tell where it was if I did not point it out. There are no visible scars. Pink disappears to white, and the rest is up to skin tone.

2. Take it from the grannies here on the forum. Sexy is in your head. No scar or comment can take it away from you. If you follow the thread on white jeans, you'll see! You deserve to be loved and cuddled and kanoodled, so go for it!!!!

Yes, my DH has been great at loving me up and complimenting me for sure! But he does not find fascination in the scars like I do! :)

I'm only 8 weeks out so I don't have a ton of experience yet, mine are definitely not as noticeable as they were...but I had kidney surgery at 16 and about a 5" scar on my side and I have to look for it bc it's hardly noticeable....maybe my agent the time I don't know, but I'm super hopeful!

If you click on my profile and look through my pictures, I posted a 6 month scar picture. I will never be a bikini model but I could care less! I weighed about 175 lbs in the pictures.

So I'm pre-op, but I HAVE had abdominal surgery before. I'm a very pale redhead that scars / marks easily, and it took a couple of years for the redness to go away. That was 14 years ago, and you can still very clearly see the scar, but it's mostly "skin" colored now.

Well, all my incisions are ITCHING like crazy! There is one incision that my Doc sewed up all the way (and looks great) the other 6 he used those sterlie strips. I did see my PCP this past Tuesday and she said all my incisions are healing up well. I thought one was infected. I'm not too worried about scaring. I know it's gonna take a while for he incisions will go away. When I had my gall bladder taken out, I can't even really tell where my incisions were, of course they were more on the side of my stomach unlike the sleeve.

I've had several surgeries and the scars mostly fade and are unnoticeable. I do apply organic coconut oil to mine and I believe it helps my skin.

Hi I had surgery 1/20/14. I have a 10" railroad track down my tummy! Have any of you tried Vitamin E? I was thinking of using that it would coconut oil work better?

I did try the Vitamin E thing. I bought the liquid gel caps and broke them open as it is much cheaper to go that route, but I ended up staining one of my favorite shirts :( So, the stuff I pointed out earlier seemed to work for me ... or maybe I am just not a scar-er.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
