African American RNY Sisters

  • Popular Post

Hi my name is Heather and I had RNY on 11/18/13. I am looking to connect with other African American women who had RNY. Any takers?

I love my rny! I have several really great friends that are doctors, nurses, dieticians and pharmacists. When I let people know i wanted to have wls, they supported me by working out with me and helping with my meals at work. They tried to talk me out of it but then they saw the changes weren't helping me lose weight. I got a unanimous vote for rny over the sleeve. 3 of the people in my circle have written internationally published medical articles so I trust them. I'm glad I did. I'm almost 2 years out it's been amazing. They also helped me research my surgeon to make sure he was worthy. Lol. I almost had to fly outta state.

May i ask why the revision??

Im considering the rny but ive heard so many stories on hair loss and absorbtion issues im scared..lol.. i was really set on the sleeve but now that ive been reading up on rny i am STUCK..SMH

I got my iron rechecked Thursday, and a new surgery date yesterday!!! October 12th.. Im excited.

I'm pre not post and I like my shape, I just want to be healthier, my concerns about weight loss mmmm I'm just going to say it. My behind losing the shape of it. All the pics I seen on the Internet looks saggy and flat. Has this happened to any on?

Hello to all. I was amazed to find this thread. I am approaching the end of my preop process. My final supervised monitoring will be the first Thursday in November and my surgeon is hoping to have me scheduled by the third week but I'm hoping for the second week in December. It's nice and comforting to read about your journeys. I'm learning a lot from this site.

Yes, unfortunately for me... the only answer is squats and butt exercises to help with flabby new bottom. I'm 9 weeks out and can already see the difference.

I pray i dont have alot of loos skin

I was a squatting fool for the first 12 months after surgery. Still lost all my booty. But all of a sudden it's starting to come back and I'm not doing much just taking the stairs every now and then. I have some lose skin on my belly, arms and thighs but not too much. I still want to get some work done eventually but I'm in no hurry. My husband is just happy I finally have some shape back there he was little upset about that part. Lol

I'm pre-op. Surgery date is 29 Dec but I am terrified! I opted for the gastric bypass which I hear that overall achieves the best and safest results, but I am still super anxious.. How have you all coped after surgery? What has been some of your pitfalls?

  • 4 weeks later...

Hey, I had the rny and was happy with my choice. The weight came off slowly @ first then after about 6 months it all came rolling off. I would say for me the biggest challenge is drinking enough liquids even 10 months out! It's a great procedure if you are done eating sweets and high fat foods for recreation. Lol

I had the rny and it was the best decision for me. The weight is coming off slowly but I feel great and now love how I can move and exercise like never before. I love the new me that I see evolving each day☺️

Hi all,

Had my procedure on 10/13/15.

Almost 3 weeks post op 331. Im so happy I did this also. I feel so much better already. I can walk miles a day. The feeling is so good. I'm reaching for a goal of 200 pounds. If I get there I'm satisfied. Hard time getting my protein and fluids, but getting better every day. By the way, from Burlington, North Carolina.

Hey! I'm Tyra,26, from Brooklyn NY. I just had RNY on Tuesday. Although I still have some pain, I feel like it's the best decision I've made in a long time
