GERD, EGD results, and Sleeve vs. Bypass?
I'm 5 years out RNY. I also had Gerd pre-op and my doctor would only do RNY. I haven't had any complications, strictures, hernias or anything of the sort. I stay pretty active and hike often. I think better time is spent researching your surgeon and their rates of complication. That has a much greater effect on your personal outcome than overall averages. If you're confident in your surgeon, I'd say go with the sleeve but be open to revision if necessary. Good luck on your surgery. HW 314 SW 296 GW 177 CW 169

Typical Vegan Meals for a Day
Hey Y'all! I'm almost 5 years post-op RNY. I've been vegan for a year. I love to cook and find creative ways to get my protein in but I'm looking for what others eat on a typical day. For me it's something like this: Breakfast: almond butter on sprouted bread toast topped with flax seed/cinnamon or quinoa with soy milk and berries Lunch: spinach salad loaded with veggies topped with chickpeas or black beans, roasted barley and pumpkin seeds Dinner: Small sweet potato topped with 3 bean chili and a cooked veggie or sofritas, roasted veggies and brown rice Snacks: air-popped popcorn, fruit, hummus n veggies HW 314 SW 296 GW 177 CW 169

I was in a the same boat. I'm back to the basics and working out 5-6 days/week. I'm down 14 pounds of 25 I gained plus I wanna get to my goal weight. I started at 314. I'm at 188 now. We can do this!

Why did you choose bypass?
I had serious reflux issues prior to RNY. My surgeon told me the bypass would eliminate my reflux. I'm 3 years out and have no issues with reflux. Dumping is not really an issue either for me but I know my limits when eating things that aren't Bariatric friendly. I would go over your medical history with your doctor and determine which surgery will give you the best outcome. Good luck on your journey! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How Has Your Food Budget Changed?
I spend about the same but we're a family of 5 and my kids are growing so they eat more to make up for what I can no longer eat. The only thing special I buy for myself is protein powder/shakes otherwise we all eat the same healthy meals and snacks.

Veterans ONLY please. One year + post op.
I really like this idea. I'm almost 2 & 1/2 years out and I rarely post or comment because it feels irrelevant to where I am in my journey and what I'm going through.

Did anyone's insurance call...
I have Aetna and had a nurse assigned to me during my approval process. She ended up being a huge advocate for me and my surgery was approved within 48 hours. She did get personal and I had weekly phone calls with her to track my progress and health. Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App

Weight loss surgery and mental health.
Keep communication open between your psychiatrist and your surgeon. My psych was key in getting my approval and making sure my meds would be tolerable after surgery. Don't be afraid be open and express your concerns. It lets them know you are concerned about all the right things and are willing to address it appropriately. Good luck to you!

What's everyone eating for thanksgiving?
The menu is turkey, brisket, stuffing, collard/turnip/mustard greens with chicken breast, spinach salad, sweet potatoes, Mac n cheese, banana pudding, sweet potato pie and fresh fruit salad. I'll be eating just the turkey, greens, spinach salad and maybe fruit salad but I get the pleasure of cooking everything. :-)

African American RNY Sisters
Yesterday was my 2 year surgeriversary. I'm down to 178 from 315hw well 298sw. I'm feeling great but really wanting to drop another 18-25 pounds. I have no regrets except I wish I could control my cravings a little better. I don't have dumping issues so in moderation I can eat everything. I don't most days but I still have my guilty pleasures in small portions hence the reason why I have not reached my goal weight. Anybody else have this issue?
