Band Comes Out January 29th!

Recommended Posts

I am over the moon with excitement about my band to RNY revision! I just wanted to share my joy with all of you! After dealing with all the ups and downs and run arounds with my former surgeon's office (Dr. Daniel Swartz) and moving to a new surgeon (Dr. Kelvin Higa) to start all over, I could not be happier with how quickly and efficiently I have my new surgery scheduled!!

I feel so wonderful. I am ready to start prepping my body and life for this change and finally see the results I had hoped for when I first went under the knife.

Wish me luck!!

Congrats! Are they doing both the removal and the revision RNY at the same time? I have been approved for the band removal, but have to go thru 5 nutrition classes, a new psych eval, and resubmit request to insurance for the RNY. My Dr wants to do both at once. Goal is to have the surgery before April. Let us know how you do. And good luck on your journey!

I also wanted the one step procedure and is approved for it. I'm thinking after the 30 day pre-op diet, I will be right under 200#. Now I'm wondering maybe to do it in 2 steps b/c I could probably gain another 15# before having the RNY.( I know that sounds crazy ) My Dr. explained that it would be much more costly for me to do it in 2 steps. Therfore, I need to decide before I have to reapply again to my Insurance Co. However, I do want to take a stab at getting rid of my diabetes and HBP. I just want to make the right decision this time and NOT like I did by having the lap band.

I will be having it all done in one surgery. That is the way my surgeon prefers to do it. He specializes in revisions so I am confident all will go smoothly.

I am trying to get myself in the mindset already and lose what I can before hand to give it a head start.

That is great...hope all goes well. Good for you working on losing now too. I am working on my 10% the NUT wants to see during the time I take my mandatory 5 classes. My psych eval is scheduled now for Jan.30th. Hoping to get all the classes in by Feb 11th. If I can get my weight down close to that, I can get my second request back into insurance for RNY bypass. Funny, my doctor said he was not concerned with me losing a particular amount before surgery, but the NUT is?? Any way I am working on my new healthier habits now. Keep in touch.

Congratulations!! I too just got approved for my Lap revision with Dr.Higa. My surgery is Feb. 10th. I was super happy they got me scheduled so fast. You are in amazing hands with Doc Higa. He has been my doc for six years and consider yourself fortunate to have one of the world's best Bariatric surgeons to do your revision. I wouldn't let anyone else touch me. He has been a wonderful doc with the band and very sincere after gaining back 69lbs. He gets it that the band fails after the initial weight loss.

Oh my gosh... I just got the chills. I'm thinking about you and I bet you are did great during surgery. You've got Dr. Higa girl and he's the bomb!! I tease him and call him The Rock Star of bariatric surgery. You could not have found a better surgeon. I have my surgery with him in 11 days. Please post when you feel better in a few days and let me know how things went and how you're feeling. I have no idea what to expect going from Lap Band to Sleeve. I'm nervous and excited. I'm sure you know how that is.

Day 5. Doing well. Only stayed one night in the hospital, surgery was about 2 hours long, haven't needed to take my pain meds since Friday. I have a drain in, which I didn't expect. Its kind of annoying to deal with but it comes out on Thursday. I can't wait. I'm soooo bored of broth and sugar free whatever at this point and I find myself preoccupied with thoughts of food but I hear that's normal and goes away after you can start to eat more normal again. Been walking a lot and taking it slow. FHSH was a great hospital and my nurse, Hai, the first night was great. You'll do well. Just follow doctors orders, try to walk as much as you can and get your fluids. You're in good hands with ALSA.

Glad to hear your doing really well. It's the count down for me. Pre op is Tuesday and surgery 2/10. Did you find out why you had to have a drain? Maybe Dr. Higa does them on all his sleeves? I'll have to find out if it's routine with him on Tuesday. I've had a drain before so if I get one no biggie I guess. I look forward to seeing your progress and I'll post as soon as I can after surgery. Cheers to you!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
