HOW TO GUIDE for Chewing and Spitting

Recommended Posts

It seemed to me that maybe Ken posted this from personal experience, and wanted some advice, not judgment. Isn't this site for support? I for one can say I have succumbed to this a couple of times simply because I knew I couldn't handle the food yet and I just wanted to have the flavor in my mouth. I realize the dangers of it and will still probably do it occasionally just to taste something! I am in charge of me, feel free to cast judgement all you want....shame shame

It really doesn't seem like the OP wanted advice at all...at least not from us. He did ask that any medical professionals should weigh in if they choose....but I think it's safe to say that any competent medical professional is going to err on the side of decency, safety and healthy responsibility by not encouraging this horrible behavior in any way.

Yes it's true, many people here have done this. I did it a couple of times in my first 2 weeks. That doesn't make it ok nor should we promote a "safe" method of doing it. This OP is enabling a deadly eating disorder....nothing else.

This forum is about helping others and sharing ideas. And I know that's exactly what the OP was trying to do....but we have a responsibility not to help others go down a destructive path. And in my humble opinion, this entire thread will only give encouragement to someone who happens along looking to justify their destructive behavior.

Any food that finds it's way into my mouth is a goner. Ya can't go back out the same door ya came in.

This is the age old story of risk management.

Laura sees this as a dangerous path.

Gone sees this as an opportunity to educate people.

Both have their merits; however, I absolutely agree that it has no place on this forum unless we see some serious Gone credentials. Nutritionist? Doctor? Medical professional?

If people seriously want a guide on how to chew and spit they can go to plenty of the pro-anna and pro-bulemia sites out there and read up all they want. You're assuming that people on this site are so stupid that they ONLY come here for ALL their information. 99% of posts I see on medical issues from member start with "I'm not a medical professional and I suggest you contact your's, but this is my experience..."

I come to this site for support and help. When I clicked the post I honestly wasn't sure what "chew and spit" was until I read it. That's why I clicked it. This is not supportive of the pre and post op community. This is not healthy. Any guide on unhealthy habits is not welcome in my eyes. I'm sure that you're more than welcome to post this garbage on the forums of pro-eating disorder sites, so leave it there.

My neighobor actually suggested I do this at a holiday party. I said NO! Fortunately for me, I knew it was a BAD IDEA. I have been overweight/obese since I was 12 years old. The only time I was at a "normal" weight was during my service in the Army. To do that, I had to smoke ciggarettes, drink heavily and starve myself. I quit smoking and drinking and was then morbidly obese.

After undergoing this surgery, I feel I've worked too hard, mentally and physically and tolerated too much pain to even contemplate doing that to myself.

If you want to know how to Chew and Spit without seriously injuring your body, you'll have to ask one of the many members below who decided to complain and criticize this posting enough for me to take it down and stop coming to this forum anymore. I hope you all stay safe. Good luck with your weight loss journey.

spit and chew is for chewing tobacco

if someones does this, well, what can you do..

posting some nonsense like this on a (weight loss forum) you

will get some bites from those desperate enough to try it .......

what works is eating to lose weight in the right way....

and any WLS helps if used correctly....

.and hopefully those (seeking instant/easy gratification)

will not do this...spit chew and other things..

harlem was right, many sites out there in the world showing quick fixes..

some downright dangerous and some....well, each to their own.

:( I don't know what the first post said as it's changed now. But I know earlier on if someone was cooking something that I liked, I would take one bite and chew it and spit it out just to taste it. I know I can't swallow that crap, so I spit it out, but I wanted to taste it. I have only done it a couple of times, but I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I have stuck to my post op diets, worked out, and gotten all of the recommended Water. I don't think anyone should make a plate of food and chew it up and spit it out, though! I only did it a couple of times early on to taste a food that someone made.

I guess your next post will be for alcoholics just to swish the liquor around in their mouths then spit it out. WTF man???

I am doomed, I can't even spit it out at a wine tasting!

Weird. I think there times when this behavior is not a threat at all. I have to taste the food I am cooking to make sure that everyone at the table is not going to be grossed out by my culinary delights. So, when I have that spoonful of lasagna in my mouth, I chew, hem, haw and spit it out. I think I am a super hero for doing this, too..

Also, I ate a clam on NYE and chewed and spit because that rubbery little mollusk tried to choke me.

Yes but that's completely different than what the op was suggesting. He was suggesting you do it regularly instead of eating. What you're describing is harmless. What the op was encouraging was a full on eating disorder.

Thank goodness. I'm a superhero after all!

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
