Trouble advancing diet

Recommended Posts

I'm supposed to be able to tolerate soft foods now, but I just tried a small amount of fish and a bite of potatoes. Then threw it up! I had a similar problem advancing from liquids to purée. So frustrating! It's getting depressing having drink my calories all the time. Guess another week of puréed foods and liquids is on my horizon. Booooooo :(

I did the same going from liquids to the next stage, reverted back to shakes also. It does get easier, just try some other dishes perhaps?

I did creamy Soups and puréed chicken ( in a can) with some gravy & mashed potatoes. The qty is so small I'm still amazed!

I'm now on soft foods and found Wendy's chili to be the BOMB!!

Had salmon quesadillas yesterday but the tortilla was a bit much so I just are the salmon/cheese mixture with some cobani yogurt.

Keep up the good work!

You might watch how the food is prepared...not too much butter or grease...or spice..keep it kind of bland. Give it some time...I ate soft scrambled eggs at first then went to sweet potaotes and regular baked potatoes...I didn't try anything to heavy for awhile. I boiled a variety of vegies. I ate meatloaf, salsbury steak, and eventually tried some tuna with light mayo. It just takes time. Hang in there. It will get better...and sooner than you think.

I transitioned into soft stuff eating mash potatoes with a little soft chicken mixed in. I also kept eating the egg custard because i couldnt tolerate eggs well until about 5 weeks out. still dont tolerate them well. Only a couple small bites will fill you up.

Give it time. It's hard not to leap into new foods when you are cleared for it because you get sooo tired of the limitations, and it's disappointing when you can't quite eat them yet. Try it again next week and see how you do.

I tried mashed potatoes my first day of puree foods and just 1 tsp was like a ROCK in my stomach! My stomach just couldn't handle it. I'm on soft foods now my stomach still hates mashed potatoes and eggs, although I'm just fine with fish and meats. It could be that you need some more time on liquids/puree as others are suggesting, or maybe you should try other soft foods that your stomach may be willing to handle. Have you tried soft cheeses? Happy cow cheese is soft and creamy.

I agree, try something else. I am a year out and my belly still dislikes potatoes.

We all have to learn patience when learning to eat again. :)

Thanks for the input. Yeah cheeses usually sit fine, in fact i had cottage cheese for Breakfast today. I think I am still getting used to the new portions (man it's hardly anything!) as well as needing to try different foods or maybe just do more liquids. Now that I'm feeling better, by brain is telling me to eat but my tiny sleeve is rule maker now! Lol .... There's no use in being depressed about it though; this is my new life!

I actually told my husband today that I am just now starting to really understand how I can eat. I eat very small amounts every few hours. (I eat mostly Protein bars and a few times a week I eat a bit of "normal" food) That's what works for me and everyone is different. You'll figure out what works for you.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
