Can I go on disability after surgery ?

Recommended Posts

I worked for a Fortune 50 company at the time of my surgery. I took a week of sick time, then 3 weeks on short term disability. I had 3 co-morbidities, so surgery was not considered "elective." And mine was a traveling job and because if the lifting restriction I was able to get the extra time.

I am self pay due to my companies exclusions. I do not have co-morbidities, but still do not consider this an elective procedure. I am getting short term disability.

I did have to call my insurance company prior to going in to ensure all of the paperwork would get done on time and my pay would not be delayed.

Heads Up...

DO check with your HR.

Likely can not get Social Security disability since that program requires an impairment so severe that it keeps you out of work for 12 continuous months.

5 states, NY, NJ, RI, CA and I think HI have state run short term disability programs.

For the rest, bo paid benefit unless your work provides or unless you bought a private ST policy.

FMLA does not pay benefits but, as said earlier, does protect your return to work!

FMLA stands for Family Medical Leave Act...this, when approved, pretty much allows you time off from your job for medical reasons involving you or a family member without risking you losing your job.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
