I am 5 months out and I still can't get that much in. Just do the best you can, you are so early in the healing process. Try different temperature Water, Decaf tea, G2, etc. I still drink diluted apple juice because it gos down easier.

At the beginning I actually used a clock and sipped every 5 minutes...I watched the clock. Then after a day or two I sipped every 3 minutes.

Good luck.

My stomach keeps cramping I'm taking little sips but taking too many at a time. I'm only drinking Water and Decaf blueberry tea. I can have apple juice and G2!?!? What about the high sugar content in them? (G2 & apple juice)

At 5 days I might've been able to get in 24 oz (not including my Protein shakes, broth or popsicles - which I've heard that u CAN count). So it may not be as hard as u think:

4oz of Protein shake 6x a day = 24oz

2oz of broth 3x a day= 6oz

3 2oz popsicles= 6oz

1 32oz bottle of Powerade 0 nursed all day= 32oz

=64oz

And thats without even touching an actual sip of plain Water. Don't forget that u can add any liquids that u may get from other sources other than plain Water (except coffee)

Good luck!

G2 is sugar free as well as Powerade Zero. The way that I look it is....even though apple juice has sugar I'd rather drink it cut 50% with Water than not get enough fluids in. Just my opinion.

There is no way u can get that much Fluid down right after surgery. I t in about 16 oz in yesterday. The hospital told me that the 64 oz is a gradual process. Drink 2 oz per hour bluer tante.y either your full liquid diet. Hope fully this msg clarifies the 64 oz.

Ya I'm just worried about getting dehydrated. The hospital is the last place I want to go back to and I've been getting a low grade fever and I was told that is from dehydration. I've had about 18 oz so far today which is hard when you're getting naps in. Zzzzzzzz

I know how you feel. I am 6 weeks post-op and I was in the hospital Wednesday for IV therapy. I just can't seem to get the fluids in. My stomach is always cramping with the liquids, as well as taking my medicine 3 times a day fills my stomach so I can't add anymore liquid. I was drinking about 20 ounces a day. I feel so much better after the IV but I know I will be back there again since I can't maintain more than 20 ounces per day. I wish you luck, and know how you feel. It is very tough.

I'm 9 days post op and yesterday was the first day I was able to drink 64 oz. I increased my intake daily until I was finally able to do it. Hang in there. It will get better.

I am on day 5 today and I'm averaging between 4-8oz per hour and didn't really have too many issues with the liquids after day 2. I find that plain Water is harder to drink (especially cold), so I have most of my liquids at room temperature and alternate between Powerade zero, and Water with crystal light in it. I often think I'm going to have a leak of some sort this early in the game, but according to my WLS binder the surgeon provided me with, I should be at 4-8oz/hour at this point, and be able to take in more fluids by weeks 3&4.

Set your alarm and start drinking at 6am, drink constantly until you go to bed. Consider it your job! That's what I did and had no problems. You won't feel like it, but do it anyways! Fluids are very important!!

I'm 2 months out and still have troubles but I love Gatorade can't do g2 but I dilute the regular kind since I can't drink plain Water since the surgery. n just purchased a liter bottle so I can carry with me every where I go. Fill it up 2x n there u go. That way it won't feel like I have to drink soooo much.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
