Surgery is tomorrow! 12/13/13

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited! Today and until Monday is nothing but Clear Liquids, then liquid for 2 weeks straight. It's scary but necessary! I can't wait to see myself (hopefully 60 lbs) lighter in 6 months!

Hi Jenn,

Welcome and best wishes for a speedy recovery tomorrow! I'm sure you have read all around here, but here are a few tips that really helped me through my first couple of weeks after surgery.

Ice Pops are a life saver and help you get the fluids in.

Warm Decaf tea helps with fluids, soothes and helps release gas pains.

Heating pad or hot Water bottle for under shoulders or back go help with gas pain. (do not put on wounds)

For wound pain ice packs are the way to go especially at the port site.

Walk, walk, walk, nothing will move the gas out like moving and it will help the healing process also.

Ask the hospital or Dr. for some small medicine cups to sip from so your not overwhelmed with large gulps

Have some Tylenol on hand and fill script for pain meds if your doctor gives them to you. As well as Gas-ex or Beano.

Most of all give your self lots of TLC and give yourself time to heal before getting back into the every day grind.

So how are you doing today?

Really REALLY sore lol. Apparently I was yelling (loudly) after they woke me up and they had to calm me down. The gas pains are already mostly gone, but I'm sure they'll pop up again tomorrow. I could really use a massage right now! Lol thanks for asking, I'm glad it's been done but right now I feel like crap.

First day is the worst. Third day gets really better. Do you have GasX strips from the drugstore? They will really help. Get sleep, walk around the house as much as you can tomorrow, and rest. Welcome to the other side, and post often! Strange about the yelling part, but anesthesia does strange things sometimes.... :-)

Many short walks helped me and in 24 hours almost all gas was gone. I drove my car on the second day and attended a lapband meeting at my hospital. The heating pad really works as well. I put it by my shoulder blades 20 minutes every 2-3 hours. Sip lots of Water. Follow doctor's orders.

Best wishes and Keep the Faith.

Thanks guys! I'm waiting till my minimum 4 hours is up on my Cpap machine then I'm gonna try to get out if the house and do a teeny bit of shopping. I think it'll be easier than walking circles around my dining room table lol

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
