I am having such a difficult time with this 2 week preop liquid diet and I'm only on day 2. I'm starving and I want a huge cheeseburger but I know that if I do it, I'll get in that operating room and my liver will still be big and they won't operate on me. I'm on 2 Protein Shakes a day and full liquids but I just feel so tired with constant headaches so I had a half of glass of diet coke. I'm ready for my stomach to be smaller so I won't have this huge appetite anymore!!! #FeelingFrustrated#

My surgery date is 1/15/14 and I'm on my pre op diet, I'm so attempted to eat the wrong foods and stray off my diet. I just hope I can make it and am a success. I am having second thoughts about the surgery because I am so scared of complications. I had many complications when I had the lap band 7 years ago now I am having the rny but it will be open instead of laproscopic.

I am scheduled for January 14, 2014, and of course my family members wait until right before surgery to tell me they are dreadfully afraid for my life. I have let every know from the beginning of this journey what my intentions were. I really don't need doubt now. I cant blame them though, last year I had a tuble and almost died from a post op infection. I had to have wound care for two months and was out of work for 3 months, so I can see their hesitation. My biggest fear is not will I recover but how long it will take me to recover. I am trying to stay optimistic and look forward to my update one year from now. I am on a 900 calorie high Protein diet for now until surgery. Wishing all the January sleevers good luck...

My ultimate fear is quite different from yours. My fear is that it won't control my appetite. I feel like I could eat 6 cheeseburgers right now. Its a weird fear but it's mine

Hi hear you! I just want to eat eat and eat! Anything in sight will do! If I lived close to fast food joints I am sure I would be there. My fear is after surgery I will just want to keep right on eating!

I'm terrified to be honest. I'm a sucker for fast food so I'm feeling quite disconnected from food right now being on my clear liquid diet

You all will feel totally different post op. I'm only 4 days out and my appetite is almost completely gone. I was a fast food addict too now the thought of fast food makes me sick.

If you don't mind me asking... Why will it be open? Is it because you had lap band?

It is going to be open because I have had multiple abdominal surgeries so there is a lot of scar tissue so it would be too complex for laproscopic surgery.

My Surgery is on the 16th and I was given a 3 week liquid diet..OMG!! This is very hard for Me to start and stick with. I'm sensitive to artificial sweeteners and I mistakenly purchased the Atkins Advanced French Vanilla..Uuggghhhh, horrible! Hopefully tomorrow I can start the diet and stick with it strictly!

I myself am on day 2 of my pre op diet. My doc said stay away from carbonated drinks. I have 2 Protein shakes and for dinner 4 oz of fish & 1/2 cup of veggies.. I have had sugar free Jello, Water, & crystal light. I have not tried the chicken broth yet. I heard that really helps. I was told that I could have anything without calories. (0 calories)

I was also told sugar free Popsicle help. They also tell me it gets better on the 3rd day...

Welcome to hell :). Where you're so close you can taste it but are stuck smack dab in the middle of the most miserable part that seems like it will never freaking end...,just know that you guys CAN do this and life on the other side freaking rocks :). I would suggest not letting yourself get too hungry...broth and Decaf hot tea were my best friends. Sipped on them all day. If I got hungry I'd chug a cup of broth so fast it almost made me sick :P. Also homemade broth is sooo much better than prepared....congrats on almost being there!!!!!! What an amazing way to start the year!!!!!

Day 4 of pre op diet. It actually has gotten a lot easier!! The first day was the hardest. Going from eating anything I wanted to just shakes and vegetables was hard! But no cheating here! Only 10 more to go!! Hows everyone else doing??

That's good to know. Hang in there.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
