First Fill.. Feeling Discouraged

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill a week ago. 3cc's. I have been hungry all week even though I have tried to eat 6 to 7 times a day. I didn't expect to be in the green right away but didn't expect to be this hungry. Not to mention the scale is not moving. Ugh...

It's not going to happen over night and if you are discouraged this early in the game that's a shame. You didn't gain weight over night and it's not magically going to come off over night. This is work and hard work and sometimes you wont always see the scale move.

My first fill was 4cc's, after which I GAINED WEIGHT before the 2nd fill....It can be frustrating, this was the hardest time for me, aka "Bandster Hell"......the 4 months or so of adjustments before the band actaully started to do what I expected it to....fortunatley, the more frustrated I got, the more my Dr. laughed at me...guess he sees it all day every day....

But once we got to that place, and I learned to adjust myself to the band...where the "Rules" start to make practical sense....it has been all a breeze...best thing I could have ever done for myself...only wish I did it 20 years sooner.....

Of course, that's my experience...everyone has a different testimony...

I was banded in August, I. Have had one fill. Just one half cc. It did nothing, I am scheduled for a fill on Dec 16, but probably will not get it, as I am fixing to have surgery tomorrow to repair a navel hernia. I have tried calling my lap band surgeon for a week, but nurse could not get me in until December 3. I am in pain and a protrusion on my belly button size of tennis ball. So today I go to my regular physician and she sends me straight to another surgeon. She said it couldn't wait. Yes, I have a hernia, as I can push it in, and it is painful. I am really upset that my surgeon could not see me, he knows where my band is. I have had 3 laparoscopy surgeries that went through my navel, so it must b weak. This might also explain why I was so sore and tender for 3 months after my lap band placement. I think my surgeon should have caught this. Anyways, here is another set back, but hopefully things will get better.

How much does your band hold? And youre at 3cc's now am i right?

The rule of thumb, from what ive gathered here on this site, is to allow 3-5 months of fills before getting to the green zone of no hunger & when u are hungry 4oz of food satisfies.

December 1st will be 4 months for me & i still feel the food restriction & hunger come & go.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
