Venison And Elk Meat..

Recommended Posts

Ok, I need some help with recipes specific to cooking venison and elk meat.< /p>

My husband got his buck over the weekend and is on his elk hunting this week.

We have 200 pounds of venison.....sigh

I am not a fan of venison! (never have been) Do not like the gamey taste AT ALL.

Elk however I do really like. So I have never cooked either. My husband fries them in butter and season.

"YIKES" :o

So my question is there anyone who can help me out by sharing recipe's that are sleeve friendly :)

Any replies are a huge help!!!

marianade portions cubed in an acid marianade (lemon juice or orange juice (cut with H2O and spices) for 25 or 48 hours and make a slow cooker stew. The marianage will cut the gaminess. These meats are very lean, so you CAN add some good fat.

My mom does elk in the crock pot with red wine and beef bouillon, I think pretty similar to this recipe. It is so good!

If you grill it, be sure to not overcook it. It makes a huge difference in the taste and texture.

marinading these meats are important....They are very lean and dry out fast...Cook as you would a roast but not as long....there are many marinades out there for beef...You can use onion Soup mix, yogurt garlic and thyme....The sauce makes a great gravy!

My son bagged a moose 2 years ago and we ate a lot of moose meat.....using the slow cooker was a life saver.... :)

Have your butcher mix in some ground pork sausage and make you a ground meat. You can use this for tacos (wonderful) and meat loaf (also wonderful). No gaminess!

I use Tomato, garlic and onion to flavor venison. Also, steak seasoning is great on hamburgers. Next time, tell him to go for a nice, plump doe. The meat always tastes better!

K so I tryd this tonight for dinner. Got the main recipe somewhere. I think on here but not positive.

I'm saying 2 mini muffins is one serving.

Recipe made 30 mini muffins

15 serving per patch

Venison Mini Meatloaf Muffins

1 Pound Deer hamburger

1 C Parmesan cheese (grated)

1 C Tomato Sauce (low sodium) Save half (4 oz) for topping

1/2 tsp Garlic powder

1/2 tsp Onion powder

1/4 Diced Onion (optional)

1 Package Instant mash Potatoes (I tbsp per muffin)

Mix first 6 items together well. Fill mini muffin pan with meat mix.

Bake at 350 for 15 to 20 minutes

About 10 minutes in I added the potatoes on top. Finished cooking then drizzle remaining tomato sauce over each mini meatloaf. and EAT.

I'm pleased to say it was Devine. :) Which is saying something because I used to puke each time I tried venison.

Let me know if anyone trys it.post-185439-0-64715300-1385171993_thumb.jpg

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
