So Many Problems. Worth It?

Recommended Posts

I am a 27 year old female who had the sleeve performed on Oct 14. My starting weight was 487 and on my 2 week post op, I lost exactly 30 pounds.

I have had nothing but issues. The bottom lobes of my lungs collapsed after surgery and I developed a blood clot in my right lung. I wasn't able to get up the day of or after my surgery, I was in excruciating pain. I ended up being in the hospital 4.5 days. They didn't catch the clot, and 3 days later I was readmitted for another 4 days. The very expensive ($120 WITH insurance, for 1 week) lovenox injections weren't really working. I had increasing chest pains and shortness of breath, so my doc suggested I go to the ER, sure they would give me a CT. Turns out, I was readmitted yet again for another 4 days.

I am now 4 weeks post op and on soft foods. My issue now is pretty severe stomach cramps and not to be crude, but diarrhea from hell. It's a very dark color, but appears to be dark, dark green. I'm also on Iron, but today, it had the coffee grounds appearance. Everything I eat, be it one soft scrambled egg, or Soup, juice, Jello, applesauce even Water makes me violently sick. It's all I can do to keep food and water down.

I am going to my surgeon tomorrow for my 4 week, but has anyone else had a hard time like this?

There is a complications forum where other folks who have had significant issues also post. Sorry to hear about your health problems. I hope they resolve soon.

Tracy, I'm so sorry you're having all this trouble. Don't worry about the weight loss now, your job is to get stabilized. Even though you are seeing the surgeon tomorrow, please have a very low threshold for calling him or her for some guidance. BTW, how long have you been on the iron....some people don't tolerate it.

Sorry to hear about your problems, but also remember that your body was having problems before the surgery. At your weight I am sure you had some co-mobitities. You are trying to recover with a body model that was going to be a Lemmon if you didn't take your life in hand. You may have got blood clots secondary to the surgery but I can almost bet you would have gotten them this year. I am an RN so I know what I am saying. So now the problems will be gotten rid of because your body is getting better. It's a little rougher road but you will see the sunlight at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there!

coffee ground stools can be an indication of GI bleeding. Very possible complication with the recent lovenox use. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
