how to go back after almost a year

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I should really post this on the vets forum since I had my surgery almost two years ago, but it won't let me post there because I need to have at least 100 post!!! which of course I don't have.

I had my sugery in Nov 2011, almost 2 years ago! I got pregnant in October 2012. I gained every single pound+ back :( I could not believe how much I was able to eat, and the worst thing is that my doctor was ok with that!!!! I strugle and asked for help, but I was told not to worry about it! I had my baby this year July 2013. Not even two weeks after I had him I lost 30lbs. I have not lost anything else after that. I still have to loose another 25lbs to be back to my initial weight. I am at loss. I feel stupid because eventhough I've done this before I don't know where and how to start. It seems like I have mommy brain and can't remember a thing!! i feel so frustrated and depress.

I can certainly eat more that I did a couple of months after my surgery, but I do have restriction, not as much as I would like.

Can someone please please help me!!! I feel like I'm going crazy!

thanks for reading

Maria.

Log your calories. Control what you eat.

Well first off congrats on the baby! The best thing to do is go back to basics cut out processed carb type food and do Proteins then veggies. If you still have good restriction great! The Protein will fill you and make you satisfied longer.

You are on the right track. I would recommend getting things back to basics with your diet. Protein first, log what you eat, and get involved with a support group. Hopefully getting things back to basics will help jump start you. Best of luck.

Absolutely! It's time to GET REAL again. You only have to lose 25 lbs to get back down to your goal right? It could be a LOT worse. You aren't that far! You can DO it. Start logging your food again. I agree with concentrating on Protein first and then complex carbs like veggies or what have you. You can do it because you have the sleeve there to help you. Stay OUT of the cookie jar. Throw it away if you have to! Fill your house with fresh veggies, homemade lean protein like chicken and fish, and get the junk away! It's worth it. 25 lbs is totally doable hun. Congrats on the new bundle of joy

Hi Maria, Congratulations on having a healthy baby! What I can tell you is that the surgery is a "tool" to help you lose and maintain weight loss, and since 85 percent of your stomach was removed the VSG. can still help you even after 2 years. What I have been told to do is eat 70 to 100 grams of Protein a day. It is easy to track your protein and calories if you get the application MY FITNESS PAL. it is best to spread the eating out to 3 meals and 2 Snacks. Do not drink 30 min before or after meals as this will wash the food through faster and you will get hungry faster. Do not eat simple carbs if possible, as this can actually trigger MORE hunger and carb craving. Most people I have read about limit their daily caloric intake to 900 to 1200 calories a day, depending on how much muscle you have and how much exercise you are getting.

It is important to drink at least 64 oz of Water daily also. Last, but not least, get your daily exercise in- or at least 30 minutes 5 x a week. Don't panic, relax, be good to yourself. Good luck!

You girls are amazing!

thank you for the replies..... I think I'm going to start adding some Protein Shakes to my diet as I'm having trouble getting my Protein in. I have to admit that I got used to some "comfort" food while pregnant, but is true is about time to get real!! I'm a little upset with myfitness pal app. Ever since I updated it, it deleted all my food logs!! I was going to start following my all diaries!! Oh well just got a work harder!!

thanks!!!!!

You can do this! Track ALL your food. My fitness pal helps. I do better if I plan my foods the night before. Also I usually pack a small bag of protien items to take with me on the days I run errands. AGAIN YOU CAN DO THIS! Get back on track :-)

Sometimes, I see people suggest that a person go all the way back to the beginning by starting with a week or two of liquids. This idea intrigues me because I was so surprised at how much easier pre op liquid dieting was than I thought it would be. If you don't feel like starting there, you could start working in a few Protein Shakes every day.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
