Hello everyone! I have been reading this forum for a while but this is my first post. I was banded today after a 8 month process that included a 6 month diet, being denied by my insurance, and having to quit smoking cold turkey. I lost 73lbs on my own since March 21st this year. I went from 356 to 283 as of today. I am 27 from Pittsburgh. Right now, I am laying in Magee hospital, which requires all bariatric patients to stay. My stomach feel like someone kicked me 8000 times... but other than that, I feel okay. I am scared and excited to be starting this new journey.

Congrats on getting banded. For the next few days become best friends with a heating pad. Between that and walking you will start feeling better. I have had my band for a little over month now, but I still remember the pain after surgery. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Adding my congrats ... I was outpatient, but I was at home in bed, online on my iPad reading these forums as you are doing from the hospital it appears! You will feel like you have been kicked in the gut, you have had surgery and there will be some discomfort as your body recovers. I equated my feelings at the time with going a few rounds with Rocky. I am one week post op as of about 11 tomorrow morning. My experience has been quite positive, I was only on pain meds for a couple days. As long as you are careful about the bending and lifting restrictions that I am sure they will give you, and allow yourself time to recover at the pace your body wants, you should do great!

This is a journey for us all! Nice to have another newbie on board. I wish you comfortable rest and recuperation the next couple days, then on to the rest of our smaller lives! Congratulations!

Hello!!!. I visited this site last year when I was contemplating surgery, I ended up backing out. I again decided to have the lap band surgery and im scheduled on 12/26 and I'm trying to keep my fears and anxiety at a minimum. I too live in Pittsburgh and will be having the surgery at Magee. Can you give me any good, bad advice and your experience with pre-op and post-op with the doctors there. I hope you are doing well for only being post-op a few days.

Hi K :) I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner. It wasn't letting me on the app and I couldn't get to my posts. I have to be completely honest, my experience at the hospital was a disaster. I don't know if you seen my other post, but my surgeon (Dr. Ramanathan) put a too small sized band on me, and then proceeded to fill it with at least 5ccs of Fluid. I couldn't swallow and ended up panicing having severe nausea and vomiting of stomach acid, mucus, and blood. It was very scary. I was in complete misery for 2 days. On Wednesday night at 11pm, they finally took me back into surgery and replaced the band with a larger one. I am doing much better now. The nurses were fantastic and everyone really tried to make me as comfortable as possible. I ended up being in the hospital for 5 days. Dr. Ramanathan seemed like such a good guy and I think he is, but I must admit he let me down. After having two surgeries in 3 days, I am still not feeling that great. My stomach is just very sore and my whole body just aches, but I think I am getting a little better everyday. Today I was allowed to move on to full liquids, so I am happy about that! Private message me and we can talk about everything :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
