New here - just banded yesterday

Recommended Posts

Hi all - I just discovered this site today and I am so happy to know there is now a place I can go for support. I have a question for all the pros out there...day one after banding is it normal to only get one or two small sips down before feeling pain in my chest? Everything else seems great but I can barely drink Water and don't want to get dehydrated since I have two babies under 4 yrs old I have to take care of.

Any advice would be great .... thanks in advance!

I was banded Monday! Just make sure to tell ur dr. in case u can't keep those small sips down. Tuesday I still had an IV in place and I couldn't even think of trying to drink. But each day it got better and I can drink a full glass (slowly) now. I was wondering...how many incisions do u have?

I have 5 total incisions. One is big the other 4are very small.

I am keeping everything down but man it hurts to take a sip of Water or broth.

How long were you in the hospital for? They made me walk out of the hospital w/in 1.5hours after surgery...I feel like that was way too fast.

I barely wanted to drink anything at all just a 1/4c maybe the first few days, I had a rough recovery, and 1.5hrs seems way too fast! I waited like 4-5, and I begged, I just wanted to be in my own bed! For your soreness swallowing, I'm sure your tummy is just sore, your body took a beating! Good luck!

everyone has a different recovery from surgery. you had a tube down your throat for surgery. it could cause soreness, hoarseness. sipping fluids is about all anyone does after surgery. i was in the hospital for 2 days and they had given me a bottle of crystal lite and i think i drank about a quarter of it in the 2 days. i found that those little sponges they give you to brush your teeth with was my life savior. i put it in ice cold Water and sucked on it. just make the sips of Fluid your goal on a 24 hour basis. and remember to take your pain medication. either chew it or crush it . good luck to the two of you.

First couple of days are rough as far as getting liquids down.

I too, felt like you. It was Jean McMillan, author of Bandwagon who told me 1 oz every 15mins and that helped. Small sips slowly.Warm Fluid helps too.

It will get easier as swelling subsides.

One year later, I still have to start my day off with ff hot chocolate to loosen the band up in the morning.

Congratulations & Best wishes!

Best wishes to you newbies! Sounds as if you are doing great. Dufflings, please don't pick up your little ones. It can be big damage to you! Just keep sipping, you don't need to try drinking a glass of Water right away, sip, sip sip!!!!

Thanks. I was just wondering about the incisions since there's the new way being advertised called single incision or SILS something, Where they make one small incision in the belly button and do everything from that one spot. I guess it's really new on the market. I have those five ugly bruises now, too.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
