December Surgeries!?!?!?

Recommended Posts

I'm new here and have been going through this process since February of this year. After years of battling numerous health issue, including Diabetes, Hypertension, Severe Asthma among others...my primary Dr had begun talking to me about surgical options. After a lot of thought and consideration I made the decision in May to proceed with a Roux en Y procedure. The insurance company had extensive requirements and after 6 months of their programs, I received my approval 2 weeks ago!!!! My surgery is setup for December 26th (Merry Christmas) and the surgeon is requiring a 3 week liquid diet. I am 1 week into the liquid diet and I feel HORRIBLE! My daily intake consists of a Protein Shake for Breakfast, a sugar free greek yogurt for snack, a cup of Soup for lunch, a sugar free pudding for afternoon snack and a bowl of cream of wheat for dinner==800 calories/day. I have 2 weeks of this to go yet...does it get easier? Does the body adjust? I have lost 11 pounds in the last 6 days which is exciting...but hard earned. I know I can do this...but does it get easier?

We have same surgery date and I am having Gastric Bypass as well. And we are both dudes lol. We can go through this together.

Good Luck

So then I did that battle and now I'm pretty good. 4 mote days of diet and then surgery on Tuesday!!! So happy for you. I am finally not nervous...and only excited! I love u!

A little about me, i'm 24, married but separated now. I have 3 little ones and I've battled my weight my entire life. I am still on my husbands insurance and we separated about 2 months ago. I've been going through the approval process for my surgery since August of this year. I had 3 pre - op appointments with my pcp and a nutritionist visit, consutltations, i had to do a psych eval, and that was pretty much it. I just found out 4 weeks ago that I was approved, had my pre op with the surgeon on December 3rd and was there scheduled for surgery for December 30th. Im just so greatful i'm able to get this done before the end of the year (i've already met my deductiable for this year) and also before im off my ex's insurance lol.

Ready to start a new life for myself and my kids and be healthy and have the "smaller" girl in me make her grand entrance!

I'm currently about 370 and my goal weight is to be 170. We will see!

Well, well, well....I have 5 days to go until SURGERY DAY!!!! I am still on my 3 week LOW CARB diet and the scale is not moving...at all.....grrrr....I am doing all of the right things, and not getting any new movement on the scale in three mornings.....what the heck, I ask? I have THREE more days of this, then one day (Monday 16th) of the cleansing and clear liquid diet and then the big day will be here. Today I got a mani, pedi and all my waxing done! I love PERSONAL PAMPER appointments!!! I am feeling MORE anxious overall today, and yesterday was fair. I have xanax to take as needed.....my primary doc and I went over some meds and such today and he said to go ahead and take/use the xanax to relax. He knows that I am getting anxious, slightly stressed and tense in the neck and shoulders. So, I would love a good nights sleep tonight...I've been having my mental wheels spinning the minute my head hits the pillow....I am sure this is normal, right folks?

Having roasted broccoli and a top siroloin steak for dinner now! Nummmmmmmmmmmmmers.

My surgery was scheduled for 830 this morning and I had to be there at 539. Drove to my brothers last night and went it bed at 10. Felt good, no problems. Then I was unable to go to sleep. Midnight, 1am, 2am. By 230 I was in an awful sweat, my pulse was racing, and my stomach felt sore. It was like dumping but I don't know why I had been on my liquid diet. So by 330 it was not any better so I texted my friends and brother who we're coming that I was not going. I just didn't feel like it was safe given the way my stomach and heart were doing. Later in the morning I think the stomach may have been gas but not sure. I called the hospital to cancel but was unable to get anyone until 630. Then the doctors nurse called me about 930 to check on me but I was trying to rest and had the ringer off. I called them back she left a message to reschedule but then I had to leave her one too. I hope they can reschedule it before the end of the year as I've met my deductibles. But it's been an awful day still have not slept. I don't know if it was a panic attack or nerves but when she reschedules me I'm going to see if I can get an Ativan or something for the night before. I even had the bear my sister gave me when I had pancreatitis in 2009 that plays "don't worry be happy" with me! Hope none of you experience this and all goes well.

I'm so sorry Andrew. I hope it does work out for you before year end.

Hope all went well today!!

Thanks for asking. All was not well. I'm still in the hospital. Surgery was at 7:30AM 12/10/2013, and I'm still here. The gas pain was 10 out of 10 and had me crying like a baby. I'm not a cryer. But I haven't had this kind of pain for almost twenty years. Last time was when I ruptured a disc in my lower back. Please everyone pay attention to this: USE THE IV PAIN MEDS! Don't try to tough it out; they can't figure it out and you'll be hating life and this RNY decision if you don't have the pain managed. I had other complications related to my heart conditions. But pain MUST be controlled before anything else! I'll update my status again this weekend. I do appreciate all your thoughts and prayers!

I had my surgery 12/11 and now I'm wide awake with what appears to be my first set of gas paid? I'm miserable. Of course regretting every decision at this moment. Nothing seems to work and I can barely stand up straight to walk. I've never had anything major so I had no idea what to expect, I just need for this to get better and go away. I can't describe the pain I'm in. My parents basically have to do everything for me. Ugh, guess I'm going to walk some and hope these pains go away.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
