Each day I wake up, I pee, I dress down if not already in my birthday suit, I get on the scale, I take a deep breath in, I let it all out. I wait 10 seconds and just "embrace" the moment....I look down and I SMILE (most days). I am losing weight slowly and daily with my pre-surgery diet. This low carb stuff is working! I used to think it was for the birds....but that's cuz I wasn't ready to treat myself to this gift.........this gift of surgery.....a new life. 9 days to go until surgery. I have my head really in the game this time. I have done some amazing mental and behavior changes this time. It's real. I am so happy and proud. If you feel the same, take a moment to wrap your arms around yourself and hug yourself from me. If you are having a rough day, just remember that each day is a new day........if you are in search of a new start......take it.....it can happen each day, anytime of day. If you are off track, just get back ON TRACK. Don't mess up the rest of the day just because you may have fallen into the trap......step right back on the wild ride and go for it. WE CAN DO THIS!!!!

I'm on day 2 of a 2 week liquid diet, my doc uses Optifast. I'm surprised that the taste is good and I am not hungry. Yesterday my assistant brought homemade chocolate pretzels to work and was not really tempted which is unusual for me. I'm using sugar free Popsicles and hello but have only had one Popsicle so far and no Jello. Savoring my last 2 weeks of my caffeine free diet coke , that's what I'll miss the most.

Wow I forgot about that. CFDC is the only soda I drink and that's usually one 20oz bottle a week on the weekend. But still, I'll miss it!

Hello all. I am finally home tonight, dec 5, after having surgery on Dec 2. As I mentioned in a short update previously, it didn't go exactly as planned. I was to have a lap rny and ended up with not only the lap 'holes' but an incision from between my breasts to my belly button. I guess my bowel was twisted and caused problems so they had to go to the open procedure. I don't mind that other than the recovery is MUCH harder. In addition I had diabetes going into surgery and now I'm struggling to keep my sugars in the 80's. They were dropping into the 50's and that caused a lot of emotion and confusion on my part. I can now keep them between 80 and 95 but it is a balancing act. Lol I actually have to test my blood sugars more now!!! I hadn't given more of an update before now because I seriously questioned my decision to have the surgery. I couldn't be positive and didn't want to be a 'downer' to those about to have their surgeries. I still am in intensive pain and I am fighting my emotions BIG time but when I'm clear headed I know I did the right thing. It is just going to take me a little longer to heal is all. I have over 100 states in me so I look a bit like a freak and that isn't helping my self esteem right now. I would still advise others to do the surgery for your life's sake...but maybe be a bit more realistic and prepared than I was if things change during surgery. Looking forward to just be able to walk upright at this point ;).

I'm worried about that too but trying not to think about it. Hope you are managing your pain and are up and walking now.

I have been feeling a bit bouncy in the mood dept. I am not doubting that I can, will, or should have my surgery...but the process is a bit different than our FREE FEEDING that many of us are used to. I was really crabby two weeks ago on the first couple of days of my pre-op diet. On day 4 I felt MUCH better. Tonight, I am truly crabving sweets. It's time for my sugar free Jello. One day at a time.

I know exactly how you felt. The first couple of days I was ready to slap someone. Then I watched a required video that talked about all the things that "could happen" which put a fear in me for a couple of days. But the way I see it is this: I have had soooooo many tests (heart, egd, eye) that surely if I wasn't supposed to have this done something would have shown up. So I'm pretty ok with it. It happens Tuesday morning so I better be!!

So I am in day 4 after the surgery. Right now I wonder if I made a mistake. I am hurting. And my head is worse! After 2 weeks I will probably say yes! !!!lol taking powder tyle nol is so gross I Jane to figure out a way to take it. Crushed in a 5ml of Water not good. But on the whole doing well

Get your doc to give you a prescription for liquid hydro codons/acetomenophine. I got mine filled today. You will have to go pick it up though. They can't send it electronically. I hope I don't need it... But will have it if I do. Keep us posted and hope you are feeling better than you did this morning.

Mine is on the 10th too! I have to be there at 530am and it starts at 830. I pray everything goes well for us!

Thanks Andrew! I have to be at the hospital at 5am and my surgery starts at 730am. What a long day that'll be for us. But we'll likely be sleeping, eh? I hope and pray it all goes well for all of us!

Lol that's right! I told everyone I probably would not be good company that day lol. But as long as the pain mess work I will be ok. I am severely allergic to pain!! One of my coworkers had it done 4 years ago and she never had any paid or even pain meds even the day after the surgery.

I just found this forum. I am having my gastric Dec 11. I am so excited. I started out at 462 and since I started this 4 months ago I am down to 408. It sounds like the 2 weeks after is hard but everyone seems to say it gets better.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
