Any October surgeries out there...

Recommended Posts

Well it's done. On the 16th. Came home today. Did (and still do) have nausea and dizziness from the meds. Walking just fine; trying to get rid of the gas. I only lost 4.5 lbs on the pre-op diet, which was disappointing, and after the surgeryI weighed 9 lbs heavier. Yikes, didn't expect that. Wish we could fast-forward through this section. Now just sipping, sipping to keep hydrated because they said the most common reason for return to the hospital ER was dehydration. Cheers my October friends. Sally

Well the pre op yesterday wasn't bad at all. Just a very long day. They took three tubes of blood and a urine sample. Did a chest x-ray and EKG. Visited the nutritionist, psychiatrist, physicians assistant. Lots of papers to sign. Lost a few more pounds. Starting the liquid diet at midnight tonight.

Surgery: RNY

Surgery Date: 10/29/13

Highest weight: 471

Starting weight: 452

We'll I'm on day 11 of the 14 day liquid diet. All is going well, I'm not hungry at all now. My surgery is this coming Wednesday! The 23rd...I'm very excited and in "nesting" mode. Trying to make sure my house is ready, dinners are planned and projects are finished. You all sound like your doing so well! Best wishes to very one having surgery this week and next and also to you pioneers that have already had surgery, thanks for sharing it helps us be prepared! Love following you girls on your journey, just wish I had time to be on here more......

I came back from the hospital 4 lbs heavier! Still waiting to see the scale move a little. I told my husband that I wish I could just sleep until everything was healed and I was back 100%. Right there with ya!

I've been back home for a couple of days now, and starting to feel better. The hospital sucks! They make you wear compression sleeves on your legs and I couldn't put them on or take them off by myself and hated calling for the nurses for everything. I had back pain which I think was the gas but made it hard to sleep. Then, they wake you up every couple of hours. I totally crashed the first day home and just slept. My girls asked me why I got surgery when it just makes me sleep all the time! I know that everything they do there is to make sure you are okay to come home, but it was depressing for me. Wished my husband stayed at the hospital, but he had to take care of the kids, and it was way too uncomfortable to sleep there. I had buyers remorse until coming home. Sorry for the rant! Things get a lot better as the days go on.

I had that same feeling the first 3 days...all hospital days. I'm glad you're home. It gets better. I came home 8 lbs heavier than when I went in I have now. Lost 21.5 lbs from that day. My surgery was 10-2-13. Welcome to the losers bench!

Chelle I hope you don't die either!! I have the same anxiety myself, lol, but I keep telling myself that my surgeons are very experienced and that I am in good hands!! I still have 10 days to go and I keep trying to talk myself out of it but since I have been on the liquid diet for 4 days now I am down 4 pounds so that kinda motivated me!!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
