BBQ Smoked meats

Recommended Posts

How many post op'ers have tried BBQ'd meats? My favorite foods are smoked pulled pork and brisket. In moderation is this something i will be able to eat again.

I'm a Texas girl so yes I have tried BBQ since the surgery. I can eat it, but in very small amounts. It makes my pouch feel full after a few bites. But bbq baked Beans are now one of my favorite things to eat and Go down well.

i stayed away from bbq sauces because of the brown sugar in most.... but lately I have tried and been ok with baked Beans. I have tried some pulled pork and as long as I chew it really well I do fine, just really light on any sauce I put on it.

Hope you are able to enjoy some of your favorites.... it makes for a really tough road when you feel you are denying yourself so much!

Just take it easy and let your pouch tell you if its a go or not! You'll know right away what it likes or doesnt.

I can eat bbq meats (small amounts) no sauce, one of my favorite restaurants is 4 Rivers here in Orlando FL.

I eat them too. There is a local supermarket here that cooks ribs and chicken wings. I buy them. :)

Had pulled pork twice this week, little sauce, no issue. Ive been very lucky though and other than some dumping with high carb foods and queasiness with super greasy foods, I can eat everything I used to eat. Granted, the amount is hysterical compared to previous! I don't seem to like meat in general as much as I used to though.

Have you tried Bush's baked Beans? We have some at home and I have been scared to try them!

I bet a Carolina style sauce would be good to use. I will have to do some home work and try making RNY friendly options on my smoker

Low sugar so probably yup! Splenda brown sugar might work as a sub, not sure if it would burn super easy or not.

I will have to try that spend a brown sugar in my rub and see if I can't make a BBQsauce with it.

I will have to say, for the amount of rub and sauce I eat, the sugar content had not been an issue (and I'm a dumper!) how much rub/sauce can you put on 1 rib....but yes, keep us updated with your recipes Pitt!!!!

I don't put tons of sauce on my pulled pork but it would be nice to have a sauce that wasnt to full of sugar for grilling chicken or using with turkey meatballs

I don't know how you feel about bottled sauces but Walden Farms makes a sugar free one. I have not tasted it but I know you can get it at Walmart. Also there are tons of recipes online for sugar free BBQ Sauce.< /p>

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
