I'm a little over 4 months post op. The first 2-3 months I could only eat a few bites at a time. If I ate more than that I'd feel like I would get sick or get sick. I also had an ulcer, so maybe that was why. In the last few weeks I feel like I can eat a significant amount more than that. It scares me. I'm still losing weight, I'm down 89 pounds as of now, but I'm scared because I know it's a slippery slope, and I'm nervous about stretching my pouch. How much food are you guys eating at a time? A few bites? 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, 1 cup?

It depends on how dense the food is. For dense foods, I can only eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup. For thinner foods, like Soups and stuff, I can eat closer to 1 cup.

I am almost 2 months out and can eat only a few bites of a dense Protein, but I can eat a cup of special k w/skim milk in the morning. It all depends on the texture of the food for me.

Ok that makes sense. I got cleared to a normal diet last week so I haven't been concentrating on dense foods as much. Thanks!

I measure my food and usually eat 2 oz dense Protein and 1/4 c. Veg or fruit. I almost never have room for carbs. I'm lucky that I can handle chicken, beef, etc. Cause it really fills me up and gives a lot of protein bang for the buck.

I find that at 7 months post-op I am able to eat much more food than just 2 months post-op. I also find some cravings returning. I have lost about 70 pounds and have approximately 15 more pounds to lose to hit "goal weight." My concern is what will happen next year and the year after. All I know to do is to remain vigilant. I am trying to recognize "head hunger" versus true physical cravings. I do find that eating 5 smalls a day helps. There seems to be conflicting research on this. But I eat three meals a day and 2 Snacks in-between, trying to stay at around 1,000 calories per day. I do not measure food. But I do watch calories and focus on Proteins a high-fiber foods.

Depending on what kind of food it is, I can eat a little or a lot. I can eat 3 boiled eggs for a meal. I can eat one entire chicken breast. But after that, no much else. I am male. Men typically eat more than women.

I also find it disturbing that I can eat much faster than in the past. I also can consume more liquid more quickly than in the past. I've been cleared by the surgeon's office for limited amounts of caffeine, but I find that caffeine does truly stimulate my appetite. I now must deliberately focus on good habits, whereas right after surgery those good habits were imposed on me.

I'm still learning. I remain very pleased with the results of the surgery. And I'm still wishing everyone the best of success.

I find at six months out, I'm still battling with head hunger, I'm never really hungry, I think I'm more thirsty and feeling like its hunger instead. I think I'm eating too much, 300mls of Soup I get down easy, but only a few bites of solid food and I struggle for a bit, wait and then later, maybe a couple more.... I'm stalled with weight loss, but I'm losing in inches and lots of people commenting. I have 15 kgs left to go. I too don't want to destroy the size of my pouch, can't eat bread but manage ok with wraps if I chew, chew, chew.....I'm glad I'm not the only one...........

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
