I think you are wise to wait. Just like the RNY, you want to make sure you are in the best place possible when you have it done. Your recovery will be that much easier. I can not express how very happy I am for you!

So my date is set! November 19th is my day. :)

I hit 126 this morning! While not my goal of 125 it sure is close! I was popping between 129 and 130 for 2.5 weeks now. I just kept following my plan and this morning it dropped. Yay!

I know I may go back up but my range I set for myself is this and I feel like I can maintain. Plus with the lower body lift in November I may drop lower so I need to focus on maintenance and continuing to build muscle.

Way to go! You have worked so hard for this! So far I am maintaining between 125 - 127, but I have had some bad days. Learning how to live in a thin body is a challenge, but we can do this! So very happy for you!

I know we did this when this thread started but since we have some new folks in here how about a we tell where we are located?

I live in a small town south of Philadelphia by 16 or so miles called Media, Pa.

Its a great place to live, very healthy enviorment. just about everyone walks more than driving. Its the county seat and we have a trolley that comes right up our main street in town. lots of events. lots of trees!!!! a very artsy community and has a very hippie vibe going on and most people have tattoos and hang out at all of the small coffee shops here in town. you will find me on the plum street mall most early mornings at the Seven Stones Cafe occupying an outside table with my kindle and a triple shot ice coffee (skim & steva) god i love this town!!

Well look forward too hearing from everyone.

Have a great day.

Great post RJ - as usual. I live in a very small suburb northeast of St. Paul, Minnesota. The name of my town is Centerviile. I am about 20 minutes outside the city, close enough to enjoy all that St. Paul and Minneapolis have to offer (professional sports and great theater), yet in the county where there are many small farms that offer organically grown vegetables and free range eggs, and many people own horses - so its not unusual to see one going by my house. Minnesota is the 'Land of 10,000 Lakes' and most evenings you will find me on either my two or three mile walk along the lake in my neighborhood. I enjoy watching the Blue Herons and Bald Eagles that next on our lake and all the abundant wildlife. The winters can be very brutal, but this time of the year it is breathtakingly beautiful!

I live in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Been here most of my adult life, except for during college. I work for mayo Clinic so I have been to Minnesota a lot for business! I love the beach but hate the summer heat and if I could move anywhere it would probably be a New England state as I love to quilt and season changes are the best! Florida has its perks tho, especially in January!

P.s. I'll be heading to Rochester in early October for a retreat. Love it up there that time of year! :)

My husband will be having heart surgery at Mayo in Rochester in late October. They can do the surgery robotically assisted and will not have to break the sternum to open his chest. We are hoping that this will lead to a faster recovery. I am really terrified, he is truly my best friend, but I know that he will be in the hands of the best surgeons in the world. He could have the surgery closer to home, but Mayo is not that far away, they take his insurance, so why not have the best?

On another note, Southeastern Minnesota in the fall is stunningly beautiful. If you have time, take a drive over by the Mississippi River. The fall colors are amazing and Bald Eagles are easily seen. I went to college in Winona, about 30 minutes east of Rochester. Loved it!

It's been great reading all the mini-biographies. Here's mine - I'm Monica in San Antonio, TX - had surgery a year ago. My heightest weight was 259 and I weighed 132 tonight :) San Antonio is great - lots to do and see. I'm a business operations analyst by day and a balloon artist on the weekends. It's been a great journey and I'm looking forward to my husband healing up from back surgery so we can really begin to go out there and live and experience all the things we couldn't before because of the weight! Good luck to all on their way to surgery & congrats to all of us who have made it this far - we rock!

I live near charlotte North Carolina, however I am originally from outside Philadelphia too RJ! I'm from bucks county. I am a teacher and not only am I gearing up for the new school year, I am at a new school this year. I'm actually looking forward to people not knowing that I lost a lot of weight. At my old school it began to get a little annoying because people wouldn't stop talking about it. So now I'm no longer the "use to be fat girl." My highest weight was 370 and my current weight is 182. I feel great, but I have definitely begun feeling hunger and I'm able to eat more now. I'm starting to want to snack, so I have to make it healthy snacks! A lot has changed in my life for the better and I look forward to it continuing to go well! Thanks everyone for your continued support!

Your husband will be in great hands! I have worked for Mayo for over 20 years. It is truly a special place and anyone who has ever experienced care at any of our destination sites would surely agree. I had my RNY there last year and will have my lower body lift there in November. If you've never been to Rochester before you are in for a treat! I always enjoy my trips to that campus and it always reinforces the pride I have with working for the world's greatest Healthcare organization. I'm truly blessed!

I've been to Winona before! A dear friend of mine lives in Byron (sp?) And we went to Winona for a site visit once for work. What is your degree in?

We were to Rochester to see if he qualified for the robotically assisted procedure in July. It was a fantastic experience and its easy to see why Mayo has the reputation they have. I hope that the model can be duplicated because it really is the way healthcare should be.

My degree is in Paralegal Studies. I worked as a Paralegal for about 15 years and hated it. I am now the administrative assistant to the assistant superintendent of a public school district. I absolutely love what I do now. Nice to get up in the morning and be excited about going to work!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
