Hey you guys... I need some TLC and maybe advice. I caught the bug that's been going around town a few weeks ago (three weeks ago, now that I look at the calendar). I missed a day of work early on, then went back, probably too soon, because rather than being on the mend, I felt like I was getting sicker. I did the whole "cough up crud" and other things too TMI to mention until I felt I was on the mend again, was working again, but Saturday my coworkers "voted me off the island" and sent me home because I was ghostly pale. You may have noticed I haven't posted much lately either.

My stomach is constantly churning, nothing feels good to eat (all my comfort foods made me feel worse, naturally) and I can see that I'm retaining Water. I'm bloated, gassy, and queasy (I bet you want to take me out on a date now!) plus this cold thing seems to have settled in my chest as my voice still sounds like that of an adolescent male going through the change.

How much of this "taking so long to recover" do you think is related to the surgery, and how much do you think I should go in to see my doc? I keep telling myself "all they are going to say is you have an upper respiratory virus, get rest and plenty of fluids" so why go in and make myself *more* tired...

Your advice?

Go to your doctor! You likely have a bacterial infection secondary to cold. There are a lot of them going around and a course of antibiotics can make you better.

Well, I went to my doctor, and they checked me for anemia, they checked my Protein levels, and they checked my thyroid. Not sure if I mentioned this before, but two weeks before my surgery I took radioactive iodine for an overactive thyroid. It apparently did the job, because my thyroid is no more. All other labs were fine (improved, even), but my TSH (the hormone that says "wake up, thyroid, and do your thing) was off the scale. That is to say, my fatigue, creeping up depression, cold hands and feet, and absolute lack of weight loss over the last three weeks, and even the raspy voice that lingered after the cold, could be attributed to the fact that my metabolism has ground to a halt, almost, or something to that effect. The thyroid is responsible in part for regulating your metabolism. When I was hyperthyroid I lost weight without trying, now that I'm hypothyroid, I'm failing to lose weight despite trying like crazy.

I guess that's sort of good news. They have a pill for that. :)

Oh my goodness! You'll feel so much better once that levels out!!!

Yep. They put me on Synthroid and OK'd me working only 8-hour shifts (instead of 12's) for the next week or two until I'm feeling stronger.

What do you mean? You're half-way there! My mom kept losing well past the first year... very gradually, but it just kept coming off!

I don't think it's fair to have the same expectations for everybody. Like "you should lose xx pounds by xx date..."

Cecelia thanks for the kind words and support. They say the first 6 month is crucial for maximum loss. I'm just in shock I know that I'm losing slow and thats best my MD has whole set of different expectations for his patients we are to lose 75% of our body weight before we can move onto fruits and veggies. I do admit that I have broken that rule but very limited. I see my MD in JUly again with all my labs. I feel GREAT I guess I want it faster like most people and see most of the ladies on this blog have dumped 60 pounds by 4 months!

I'm at 42 lbs and had surgery 5 days after you....as long as we keep going the right direction I think we are golden! The whole 'I feel great part' is really what matters right????

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
