I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?

I'm noticing more young women getting surgery. I'm wondering if anyone else had it in 50 or 60s and how you did?

I’m turning 61 in September and surgery is in 2 days. But don’t forget 60 is the new 45
Then can we make 70 the new 47 or 50? I'd l8ke that!

Oh shoot @ clsumrall, I done forgot YOUR birthday, well Happy Birthday Last Month!?❤
I’m soon to be 52- had bypass March 23rd,2018.I’ve lost 90 lbs and passed my goal weight! It’s been hard but so worth it. I! I’m also a surgical nurse who has seen tons procedures performed-honestly thought it would be like getting my gallbladder out- it’s NOT! It’s taken me all this time to feel “good” again. I have good days and bad- but all depends on how much protein and water I’m able to get in. It’s not a quick fix- you must deal with the mental side of it- but if you’re like me, and been an overweight yo yo dieter all your life, it is a great tool to set you on your path of learning to adjust your lifestyle and obtain better eating habits!

Hi!

61 years young. I had RNY 9/6 with no problem.

Rather than age its important to consider comorbidities such as DM, HTN, etc.

The good news is these tend to resolve after weight loss.

Go for it... it will be a life saver.

Turned 60 this past May, had bypass September 24th. Feeling younger everyday. Lol

I'm 56. Was 55 at surgery.

I had mine at 53. So glad I did!

Banded when I was 46, hoping to revise to RNy before I turn 56

I haved RNY when I was 61. Four years ago. .please don't hesitate to have the surgery. Life changing in every way. I still deal with health problems. But diabetes is gone. I had a knee replacement. Vein procedures. The wear and tear obesity puts on the body is amazing.

If I could give advice ... Start exercise asap. Know that after the first year it gets harder. I'm still a compulsive eater. And it is still worth it. Good luck.

It has been a long time since I posted anything as there were not too many in their 60s or above. I had a lap band prior to me turning 70 (69). At 73 discovered it had slipped, new doctor removed it and 10 weeks later had gastric bypass. (Other dr's office never checked the band except day of surgery). Gastric didn't cure too much, as prediposed through heredity per the surgeon, but with that said it has helped and have maintained my weight loss below a 30 BMI. Would I do it again, you bet. Had a heart cath that prompted the lap band an another last month my heart is doing well. No change. That is a positive as have outlived Dr's predictions hadn't I not done either I probably not be posting today. So anyone considering this do it. You will have a new life. Thus my name here.

I'm 50 and having the surgery soon.
Hello! I will be 52 this Month. I started my journey yesterday with meeting my surgeon. I would be having a revision from the lapband to gastric bypass.
