Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody :(

Well Dave & I just did a 3+ mile walk...:faint: mind you we got the steam train back, I couldnt face another 3 miles walking on the way back, lol!

Tracy, way to go at the buffet too, you conquored that one :clap2:

Well Ive decided not to weight myself until next Sat am, when I go n see the Dr for my fill. Im also going to try and alter my food routien too, so that I have 6 small meals a day. So far today Ive had:

1. small bowl of fruit salad

2. 1 weetabix & milk

3. 1 small bowl of Soup & crutons

4. Handfull of cashew (non roasted or salted)

5. Small bowl of beef stew (later on)

6. Small bowl of fruit salad (later on)

plus I allow a milk allowance for tea & coffee.....

I'll see how it goes, but it might just keep the hungry monster from my door :)

Have a great Sunday

Sara xx

Mea Culpa!! Mea Culpa!!! I slipped today, totally by force of habit. I was in church and it was communion. Along comes the bread.. I take a piece, hold it in my hand, meditate and then when the minister says "take and eat".. I popped it into my mouth and then it hit me...... I just took a bite of bread:eek: NOW what do I do??? Do I spit it out into my hand?? Do I let it sit in my mouth??? :( I figured I had to keep it in my mouth so I chewed and chewed and chewed and CHEWED. It went down alright and I'm thinkin.. I have a solo to sing in a few minutes.. what if I have a golfball in my chest??? :) I was never so happy to see the juice come my way!! Welllllllll the bread didn't have any effect, thank goodness. I sang the solo and sat down to wait for the golf ball or whatever, but nothing happened. Rest assured, next time, I'll just take a tiny corner of the bread and keep the rest in my hand.

Hello Violets,

I am back after a weekend at my partners house! I've missed everyone, and as I was driving home, I was thinking about the Violets...I think that is funny.

Lunasa...yes you are invited to my Naughty girl party. It is all the teachers I work with, a bunch of cocktails and some lady who comes and presents adult novelty items. It is always hilarious...we spend more time giggling than anything else. I'll put out a birthday cake for ya!!!

Terri...WOW WOW WOW...I am gone for a day and you dipped into wonderland!!! You look beautiful! I am impressed and proud to be you Violet sista!

Jennifer...sending you some positive job vibes! I had a great week concerning jobs, so maybe my vibes will help. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Good luck!

Tracy...a buffet...I'm impressed. I've been eating stuff, but less of it. The scale didn't move this week, but my clothes are falling off. I know what you mean about the panties...he he! Congrats on behaving at the buffet.

WELCOME all the new violets! This, as you know, is an amazing group of people...and we welcome you! Jump in...this thread really flies!

I am gonna meet w/ my friend today and work on my dissertation. I really need to focus on that now, and just finish it. I've written 85 pages already, then stalled. Jeez, who does that? I'll check back in later. Have a great day!

PS- can we eat salad (lettus) once we get a fill. I read somewhere (here) that lettus is not good. I just had a great chix ceasar salad, and would miss that. Anyone know!

I was wondering:

My doctor refuses to do the surgery on anyone who is not 100 pounds overweight. Has anyone else heard of this? I am just curious because so many people weigh so much less than me. My goal weight would be about 20 less than where Terri is now:omg: ! Just curious if anyone ever heard this?

My Doctor has BMI standards, not really weight per se. I am not sure what they are, but pretty high. I have a little over 200 pounds to lose and already have lost 60. I am getting impatient since I spent $15,000 of my money on the surgery. I just need a fill. When I think of how long I waited to have the surgery once I made up my mind a month really is nothing, and actually I am scheduled for a fill the 15th of May. I am having a little trouble with the hernia surgery I had in tandem with the lap band, so hoping that doesn't set me back with the fill. So Pamela I think it is up to the Dr. how much weight someone has before they will do the surgery. I know that I had a BMI of over 60 and she said that I had to get that down a bit before she could do it for sure laproscopically (sp).

Basically I could have just made this very short and said I need a fill!!!!

Hi Violets!~~

This thread just zips right along, doesn't it?? Wow. Had pages &pages to catch up on after being away for only 1.5 days! oh my!

The yard sale was ok... only 4 hours & made a couple hundred... into the can it's gone! I still have a lot of boys' clothes, tho... does anyone on here need any? They're mostly shirts/shorts/jeans sizes youth M through adult S, jeans/pants 10 - 14. I'll mail 'em out if anyone thinks they'd like them... they're all in good condition, would be great "play" or casual clothes.

Went out to dinner last night w/dd & some long-lost friends... Italian... well, will spare you the details... but only 2 days 'til I see the surgeon so these will be really extreme liquid days... I hope to see at least a little loss on Tuesday's weigh-in.

CONGRATS on ONEDERLAND, TERRI!! Woo Hoo! Here ya' go girl... you earned 'em! ~~

:Banane51: :Banane52: :Banane31: :success1: :not_ripe:

:( :bananajump: :woot: :Banane41: :bananalama: :) :Banane30: :woot: :) :Banane08:

I did not know there were so many bananas!

Pam -- yay on the salsa! Do you share your recipes? ?

Jenn -- Peaceful wishes for you as you deal w/your RL issues...

Teach -- Glad the golf ball missed you at church!

Sara -- Yay on the 3 miles... I'd have caught the train back, too!

lunasa -- I, too, am copying your posts into another file to save, savor, and meditate on. You have such a wonderful way with words and insights... you are bringing out the best in me... thank you!

Tracy -- Good job w/the buffet... I cannot do buffets... there's just TOO MUCH and I'm always trying to "get my money's worth"... but in the end, it's just not worth it!

Everyone -- keep up the good work of self-discovery and band acceptance! Hugs to everyone!

I have to go in for JURY DUTY tomorrow morning... bleh! This is the first time I've ever had to go (I've been called before, but didn't have to report)... I want to do my civic duty, but I also hope I don't get picked so I can wrap it all up tomorrow... guess it's just one more of life's little adventures! Miss me while I"m gone... will check back asap. Ta ta!

Teach lady - I can really relate. Habits from the past ooze when I don't think about it. I have found eating has to be a conscious act. Sitting, chewing............, swallowing. None of the the grab and swallow of the past. Amazing and a good thing.

Think how many times the bread was passed and you took, what a habit to break. Altho' I think that it won't hurt you if you chew, chew, chew......

I still can't get over snarfing costco chicken that I had smelled all the way home. Wolf. Pow! Golfball to beat the band. No barfing as of yet, but the golfball and fizzy saliva are plenty indicators that encourage me to RETRAIN my brain (notice what's in caps).

I also am not losing. Tomorrow is the official weigh in day for me. I was hoping for more movement, but will settle for not gaining. I look better anyway.

Hugs and have a great Sunday,

Michelle

Hi All,

Well Im taking a respite from studying just re read chaper 1 again... ...and then onto the next one after my coffee break :bandit

Teach, I can just imagen you popping the bread in your mouth, and thinking...omg..omg...what do I do:omg: , lol, I'm pleased you were ok. We have like discs that melt in your mouth for communion (bit like those spacers with sherbert in without the sherbert!)

DynamoMini, me neither re weight loss, that why I thought Id give the scales a miss this week, lol. Ive had a few golf balls too, over the last two weeks (about 3 I guess) in my case, its because I havent chewed enough, you kind of forget sometimes, and boy do you remember fast again :(

mdrai...cool, on the yard sale, I bet you were really pleased!!

Pam, great to see ya back!! we missed ya! Its funny, but if I dont come on here, I actually miss it!! I think when Im at work (in secret) Im going to log on, especially once a day when Im working away! Hope your dissertations going well? I have 1 more week to study before my exam on the 14th :help: , at least it will be over, if I fail I have 1 more change to re do it again. But I'll give it all I can :) .

Speak soon,

Sara xx

Hello,

I was also banded in April. April 9. I had some problems with my port incision, but I think it is finally healing. I would be honored to join such a great bunch of losers!

Welcome tekymom!

I was also banded 4-9 but with no complications to speak of.

Nice to have another 4-niner!

Hope you are feeling much better from your problems with your port incision.

Gina

I came home from my mom and dads house Wednesday, I was obviously weighing on her scale, I try to just weigh on Mondays, but I have weighed the past few days and my weight keeps going up. I am now up 5 pounds!!!!!! I know for a few days I sort of ate more, but I don't have anything really fattening here. I have really be watching it the past two days and when I stepped on the scale today I just about died!!!

Well tommorrow is a new day and a new weight that is official!!!

thanks for letting me vent!!

Jane

I went am going thru the same thing. see below - I was losing - then did the preop and continued to lose - then from surgery (4-9) to 4-23 lost 9.4 lbs -- but then stayed stable and then even gained.

I went traveling and had more calories - eating more - and I started losing again -- today I am almost back to where I was 4-23.

I will go crazy if I stall out there again - or start gaining again!

I know I'm driven by results as well. I gained 1lb but it is also that time of the month and I'm usually good for a 5lb weight gain.

When I went from Clear Liquids to mushies I lost 4lbs. Maybe it is time to fully graduate to solid foods. Trying to finish up the stuff I made in bulk.

I just had a 3oz turkey burger for dinner, and am amazingly full - not stuffed, just comfortable. I guess maybe I should try to increase intake and see if that helps.

Hi-

I'm new to this site, but saw your thread. My surgery was on 4/10/07 with Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey, Mexico. I started at 230 lbs and so far have lost 20 lbs! I'm very excited about that, and I have lost the pain in my knees and I feel like I have more energy, but I also feel very hungry, as if I hadn't even had the surgery. My first fill is scheduled for 24 May, but I'm worried that I will gain back the weight before then. I've also had a couple of episodes where I've thrown up. Not violently, but I am worried that I may have hurt the band in some way. I don't feel anything wrong, but was curious about anyone else's experiences with throwing up?

I was wondering:

My doctor refuses to do the surgery on anyone who is not 100 pounds overweight. Has anyone else heard of this? I am just curious because so many people weigh so much less than me. My goal weight would be about 20 less than where Terri is now:omg: ! Just curious if anyone ever heard this?

I know of one lady that couldn't find a US doctor due to her BMI/lbs over weight did not qualify. She was 176lbs 5'5" BMI 29. She went to Mexico -- and they did it for her. She had her first fill 4-23.

I have read -- BMI 35 or more with other health issues or BMI 40.

Some insurances don't allow LapBand if BMI is greater than 50 - go figure ???

I threw up several times in the hospital....before my barium swallow. Fortunately the doctor said it didn't do any harm.

I am also worried about gaining back the 20 pounds I lost. I can't wait until I get a fill....hopefully in a month when I see the dr again.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
