Gastroparesis ...anyone else?

Recommended Posts

So I got rushed to the hospital since I have been in severe pain even with Water now and they pulled my emergency records from San Diego after I was taken out of Mexico when the surgeon completely screwed up down there. Found out I without a doubt have sever Gastroparesis. I am pissed and in horrids amount of pain and now after researching when the ER Dr told me not to worry now about what is to come I have found out really there is no treatment besides stomach removal.

So my question is does anyone else have this disorder and if so was yours caused by WLS like mine. The dr's seem to think the horrid surgeon who did my surgery did some pretty severe nerve damage.

Ohhh yes,...I've have alot of patients with Gastroparesis..very few with a hx of abdominal surgery... you have a vagus nerve involved in your digestive tract. Very important nerve. But the majority of them have the disorder because of some kind of co-morbidity... Especially high blood pressure or diabetes...There's a lady who had it with Crohn's. idk

I have one patient I remember...she was very young, 23yrs old., who was a frequent flier and had this disorder since she was born. The doctor ended up sending her to a specialist in Memphis, TN( I live in Arkansas) to get her a stomach pacemaker to stimulate the stomach. Before then, like many others she was on medication for nausea but they didn't help much.... she stayed in the hospital for days at a time on IV trying to get all her nutrition in her body. That disorder sucks!

Anyway I said all that to say it's quite possible it could have stemmed from your surgery.....very possible. If you hit the right nerve you will most definitely paralyze your stomach muscles. I've seen it in the hospital I work at. Just not common though... If possible look into seeing if you would benefit from a stomach pacemaker. There aren't many who perform this surgery.. but the patients that I've had that made the decision go forward with it have significant improvement.

Praying for you hunn and wishing you the best of luck.

Thanks everyone for your input. They have narrowed it down to my surgery causing the issue since I have absolutely no history of diabetes, uncontrolled blood sugars or high bp I am miserable to say the least. Can't even drink sips of Water again so it is back to the hospital this afternoon to be admitted and put on a feeding tube or tpn. As for the pacemaker it was discussed but I was told my new stomach is too small for that and the smart pill will apparently most likely cause an obstruction.

The nausea meds work for the nausea at least but keeping those down anymore is next to impossible as is pain medication. I was in such horrific pain last night all I could do is sit and cry. Then finally the broth I ate at 11am decided to come up and I got some very minor relief. What is being told to me is I am most likely going to have to have my stomach completely removed. Really having buyers remorse right now. I would like to once again tell folks that are thinking about going to Mexico for their surgeries to seriously think twice.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
