Hello,

I was banded by Dr. Jayaseelan at Medical City in Dallas. I researched Doctors in the area and decided on him. He has the most experience with LapBand, with 2000 surgeries under his belt. Very nice Dr and staff and named the best in 2005 and 2006 in D magazine. Aftercare with support groups etc...

I used Dr. Hamn which is an associate with Dr. Cribbins, the whole experience is amazing. The staff is great and let me tell you I am post op 4 weeks I went in weighing 237.5 on the day of surgery and gain about 12 lbs after surgery because of medication and swelling and 4 weeks later I am weighing 228. I feel great and had no problems with incisions or anything. I had surgery on Thursday and went back to work on Monday. Sometimes I feel like I didn't even have surgery I feel so good!!! Hope this helps someone. Oh, also I was diabetic and high blood pressure and have not had to take either since day of surgery...AMAZING!!! That was worth the sugery in itself.

I used Dr. Benavides with AIGB. I have been very pleased. He has alot of experience and knowledge. I was afraid I would have large scars and all I have are tiny lines that look like small scratches. You won't go wrong with him.

Glad everything went to well. It amazes me how different Hamm and Cribbins are. Hamm is a no nonsense guy and tells you like it is (in a good way) and Cribbins is the super nice, bedside manner kind of guy. They are both good, but very different. I used Dr Cribbins, But Hamm has done one of my fills and have freinds that used hom too.

Dr Cribbins did my surgery at Baylor Frisco...He was great...I had mine 4 weeks from the siminar date. I was cash pay though and I knwo that insurance takes a little longer...

OUSooner,

Did Dr Cribbins tell you 2 oz of thick liquids every two hours for 5 weeks? Or did I getthat wrong because Im having a problem getting my Proteins in. I just got banded on May 24th, so its still new.

Thanks

I was considering using Cribbins if my insurance would pay and Kirshenbaum if my insurance refused. Yesterday I went to my GP and he said he wouldn't recommend it. He doesn't think I am heavy enough. I am at about a 38 BMI and have uncontrolled hypertension.

Does Cribbins require your local GP to approve the surgery?

5675309,

My BMI was 35.7 and I have 60 lbs to lose with no health problems. Dr Cribbins did not require I go to a GP first. I dont necessarily think I would listen to your Dr. if you have health problems that losing weight could help and he is telling you not to do the surgery...

That sounds about right from what I recall. He doesn't do the pre-op liquids, but makes up for it with a long post op liquid diet. You can make your Protein shakes thicker by blending bananas and/or Peanut Butter with the chocolate Protein Shakes.

Same here. My PCP did not even know I was having it done, not that I was keeping it from him, just that Dr Cribben's and my insurance did not require his referal. Hope that helps.

Is there a charge to go to the Cribbins' seminar? Is it very informative?
I think it waslike 150$ or close to that but by the time I was there I knew I wanted him to do my surgery.Yes he does it himself and is very informative and was helpful in answering questions.

If there was a charge, I don't remember it, It must have been covered by my co-pay. He does both the band and RNY and he gave the pro's and con's to both. very informative.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play, and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
