I am in MN. I live about 40 minutes north of the Twin Cities. I am new to this site and looking for support. I am pre op and waiting for my approval and date still. I am scheduled for my third psych visit for next Thursday then everything should be submitted to insurance. I am so nervous and ready to actually start all of this. Let's hear who else is from MN. Maybe we can get a group together or something.

I live about 40 minutes north of the cities. I have a support group once a month nearby but I'd like to meet more people. Chaska is pretty far for me but ya never know if I'm desperate enough one day I might go to it.

I had doctor Johnson too!!! He is amazing. I absolutely love him... He is Always concerned about his patients. I got approved, met with him a week later and had surgery 2 weeks after! It goes by so fast once you're approved. I was in the hospital for a day and a half, and then came home! They will give you his pager number and the number to the hospital before you leave and never hesitate to call. They have a nurse practitioner you will talk to and will always direct you in the right direction! If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Well I went in for my third psych appt yesterday and I hadn't lost any weight yet so the psychologist scheduled me for another appt in a month. Boo!! I have to get busy on my diet and lose the weight so I can get my info submitted and get approved. I wasn't expecting that. I should've stayed on that diet and exercise program and I'd be getting my info sent in to insurance right now. This is when I need to be diligent about it and get serious but my kids drank all of my Protein shakes before I could even start my diet today which made me very mad. I need to hide everything just to go on a diet. Well feel free to tell me more about Unity and your experience. I would love to hear more!! I'm just so excited to have this done and now know someone that went there. Glad I found you!!

I'm glad I found you too! That sucks about the psych thing though :( but i had the same problem only woth the nutritionist. On my last visit i hadnt lost weight so they made me do another month. I was pissed lol but i stuck to the diet and i lost weight and then everything went better from there. I did a lot of "shopping" around before I choose unity. I think they have a great program with staff, nurses, and doctors who all really care! A friend of mine choose a different place And they scooted her through everything in 2 weeks! I mean everything, even the nutritionist. She didn't learn anything about what she should be doing for herself after surgery, and now is already regaining after a year!! Can't say it's completely their fault since she should have common sense to know some things, but I didn't like that they just rush you through with no care. If you have Facebook you can add me! Well I'm glad I'm learning what I am. Now just to get my impulsive eating under control. I added you on fb. My email is amcdowell779@yahoo.com. Are you on myfitnesspal.com? I just joined that like a week or two ago and really like it compared to the last one I was using. My username on there is amcdowell779. I put myself down to a 1200 cal diet today and for the last two weeks before I see the Psych again I am doing a liquid diet. I just want to show my husband and parents I can lose the weight. I always give up and that's what I'm so afraid of doing after surgery. I'm just going to look at this as one day at a time. That will help me stay focused. I love Unity so far I'm really happy I went there. Where are you in MN then if you went to Unity? I'm in North Branch which is about 45 minutes north of the cities.

You can do it! Just stay strong and ask your family to be supportive and you'll get through it. It was hard a first but once I got in the rhythm it was a lot easier. I live in hopkins which is a sub of Minneapolis. It's about a half hour from the hospital itself. I'll check my Facebook once I get off work!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
