1) did anyone start off a smaller patient? I'm going in for surgery Thursday @ 220.... & 30 yes old. I'm curious about the speed of weight loss, loose skin.

2) did anyone have heart palpitations prior to surgery? I have been struggling with them for years and am hoping that they will deminsh.

3) lastly, anyone have low Iron due to heavy periods? I have also struggled with this & am hoping that these two things will correct over time with some weight loss.

I can't wait to feel better...

I was put ion Iron pills due to low iron. My menstrual cycle is HORRIBLE! Very heavy and could last anywhere from 3 days to a month! Yes, a month! The Iron pills have an adverse reaction with me tho. Most get constipated.. not me. So I no longer take them.

The heart palpitations i also have. I suffer from panic attaches. I feel as if i'm having a heart attach when I have one. Not sure if it's what you're talking about though.

I have suffered with palpitations for years as well.

I had some the night I got home after surgery. I was exhausted-usually a trigger for mine.

It scared the heck out of me but I was so tired I just knocked out

I'm 7 weeks post-op and I've lost a total of 45 pounds. I've also cut my caffeine intake by about 90%. I'm sure both of things played a major role.

No palpitations since that day. Fingers crossed.

My periods have always been super heavy and last more than a week sometimes. I've only had one since surgery so I hope to see some improvement there. Miraculously I have only tested anemic a couple times in my adult life.

I hope you get the relieve you're looking for.

Oh, and I was 215 the day of surgery, after losing 19 pounds preop. I'm now 189 7 weeks out. I'm losing slowly. The doctors seem to think I'm doing great though. Whatever, all I know is I feel so much better now!

From what I read the smaller you are pre-op the slower you loose.

I don't have any of your symptoms, however I did have many years ago. I had a partial hysterectomy at the age of 23 due to heavy periods. It was caused by a break down in the uterine wall. I have an occasional skipped beat, but I'm almost 58 years old, too. I am losing very slowly now. It's frustrating! I'm averaging about 3 pounds a week. I was 283 pre Protein diet, 275 day of surgery, 260 one week after surgery and as of today, I weigh 239 and I am 7 weeks out. I hope that helps some.

1. I would consider myself a smaller patient I weighed 250 as my high but the day I had surgery I was 233. I've started to loose slower now that I'm 5 months out but inches are coming off like crazy! I work out 5 days a week, 3 of those days are cardio & weight training and 2 days are just cardio! I've lost 86 lbs in just 5 months!

2. Yes I had terrible heart palps and I was required to see a heart dr prior to my surgery! My EKG came back normal so they cleared me for surgery. I used to also have self induced anxiety attacks because my heart would start to flutter and I would freak out and it would cause a anxiety attack! I can happily say I have not had an anxiety attack or any heart fluttering/palps since I had surgery! I actually was surprised that I could barely feel my heart beating after surgery as before it always felt like it was pounding!

3. Before surgery I hadn't had a period in almost 5 years due to the fact that I had the IUD and breastfed my son for 9 months then the day after my surgery I had a period it was light and manageable. Then I started having a regular monthly period and 3 months post op I skipped a period and thought omg I'm pregnant but ended up getting 2 periods the next month then I skipped another month and then for the last week I've had my periods every other week it's been crazy my last period (tmi I know) I filled a pad in 30 minutes which I had never done my entire life! My periods were always 3 days and the 1st day was spotting, 2nd day was normal but light and then 3rd day was just spotting again so to have a period so heavy I freaked out and then my period ended up lasting 11 days...definitely not used to that! My weight has been all over the place and I finally my period stopped and when I weighed myself I was back at my normal weight and actually down 4 lbs.

I hope my answers have helped you in some way!!

I am a "smaller" patient too. I am 230lbs right now and waiting for my date. I have had WLS before lost some weight but not enough.

I also have an Iron deficiency anemia which is caused by my extremely heavy periods and by my inability to properly absorb B12. Im hoping these will resolve..I hope it resolves for you as well!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
