Remember with this diet, you can have any green veggie, not just salad veggies. That does not include corn. We're going for low carb here. Cauliflower is allowed as well. If anyone wants more variety, google the induction diet of Atkins and see if it differs.

Thinking of doing this because I've been craving carbs and sugar! Ugh!

This is what I need to do. I need to re-kick out of my daily intake bad carbs, and now that I've learned the lesson, NEVER let the in my mouth again. Post-op I did really well, until Christmas came 6 months later, and I "allowed" myself to have a few bites here and there of some of my Mom's annual Christmas Desserts... then it was, a bite here, half a sandwich there, suddenly I eat bad carbs daily. I have PCOS... I KNOW this is really bad for me, yet it’s easy so I go with it. I have been struggling to kick the sugar/carb craving again for the last couple of months. I have cut down on my bad carbs, but I need them to be totally eradicated from my diet forever. I'm a year and half out, I've lost 65 (because I've gained back 12) and I'm 45 from goal. I'm VERY angry at myself for sliding backwards.

This Boot Camp diet seems like a good way to work on this. I'm going to be smart about it though. My plan (so close to Christmas) is too start on December 26th. I know me. I know that I will just give in on Christmas Day again, and repeat the cycle. I'm not going to expect mental militant me to be successful by setting myself up for temptation on the very day that ruined me a year ago.

Thanks so very much for posting this!! It feel totally doable!

you have your head in the right place! Just get back in the game! And if this one is what you have to do to get there you got it. I'm doing it myself next week.

I came on here tonight to find a plan that would get me back on track.I feel so little restriction with my sleeve. I thought I had seen on here a plan for resetting your sleeve. Do you think this plan would help with this? Would a liquid diet do a better job. I am desperate to get back on track and will do what ever I need to to feel the benefits of the surgery again. I am 11 months out.

You might also want to look into the 5:2 diet, really only recommended for people a year out... I also started gaining weight, in the second year(22lbs), and started the 5:2, lost all the regain, and got to goal too... Now just trying to maintain through the holidays! The bootcamp is good, the 5:2 may be easier for some... I will not go into the details here, look up 5:2 diet in the vets section for more details.

liquids only is really hard and you're setting yourself up for failure. I totally think this diet does the same thing, without you having to starve. I think it's much easier to follow and I think you should start it now , as best as you can. Sure we are all going to indulge in thing onChristmas that we normallly don't eat Do the best you can right now to not eat carbs until Christmas..

Love this. The pouch test is great for those that actually have a pouch, but what sleevers don't understand or don't realize is that we DON'T have a pouch. A pouch and a sleeve are two completely different things and act and behave completely different. So a sleever will try the pouch test and wonder why it doesn't work.

I also think it's important for us to remember once we're at a certain point - for ALL WLS people - we NEED to be getting as much as possible from REAL food - meats, Beans, cheeses, veggies, etc. Protein Shakes are okay in a pinch, but are not the same and are not absorbed as easily as actual food is.

Great post!

Where is the proof that they are not absorbed as well? I have never heard or read that.

Good quality Protein Drinks are well absorbed by the body. Even those with lactose intolerance can tolerate whey. Its just that you really need a full spectrum of nutrients, Fiber and such.... which may include Protein drinks forever if you really need them (according to my doctor)... Eat variety to hit your numbers, to not get bored, stay on plan and get well rounded intake.

Started this "Boot Camp diet" today. Excited to get myself back on track as I have not done well since Halloween time! Gotta recover from these Holidays!

After the first couple of days it gets easier. The longer you stick with it, the better the results.

I hope now that Little Miss Diva is back from her break that she will jump in on this thread too. She is the one that originally posted this, and I don't know where it went on the board. I kept seeing people wanting to do the pouch test, so I found it.

I am sure Diva has done this more than I have and can offer suggestions on how well it works.

I am not sure on this - but was told the same thing at a group presentation on fitness recovery. It was not a presentation for WLS folks, and was given by a nutritionist. I have since wondered whether or not it was accurate!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
