I have a 14 year old son and he's one of the main reasons I am doing this.

I am pre-op - hoping for a 11/14/13 surgery date.

I go thru states where I am scared out of my mind. There are other times I can't wait to get it done. It's all a process. The unknown is scary. But for me the "known" of what my life is going to be like without the surgery is scary, too - I don't want to have to inject myself because I am diabetic, I don't want to have knee replacement surgery due to the damage created by the weight, etc.

So, I'm committed to my decision to do this and realize, I'm going to be a little psycho in the meantime.

Best of luck to you. Stay strong.

best, best, decision i have ever made and i am only 5 weeks post op. i am down 26 lbs. good energy most days. the only thing is when there is something really good to eat around me and i can only eat like 5 bites i get sad because i don't have my "relationship" with food anymore.... Not really a bad problem to have... just got home from the park, before surgery 2 laps lagging behind my hubby and sweating like a pig I was done.... today i was walking faster than him and wasn't tired at all but couldn't get him to go around again!!! wow how my life is changing and so for the better!!

That is awesome... congratulations!

Do u have pics? How much have u lost? Where did u start? How was ur surgery? Please share :)

Not posting pictures for privacy. Only my husband & 3 very very close & supportive friends knows. No one ekes, not even family.

I've list 69 so far.

Surgery went well. Only thing, I went in as an outpatient, but was admitted as an inpatient. Blood count was low & thought I might need a blood transfusion. But as it turned out, all of the fluids they were giving me to keep my hydrated, along with the blood thinners, really really really thinned my blood. Once the doc discontinued the fluids, blood level returned to normal, so I didn't need the transfusion. Had a problem with my heart rate. OMG, every time I moved, might heart rate sky rocketed. When I shifted in the bed, got up to go to the bathroom, or took my walks, the nurses came running. There was no problem with my heart at all. They attributed that to hospital

anxiety & worry about the possibility of needed a transfusion. I've always hated hospitals & couldn't believe I was there as an inpatient. Once they told me I didn't need the transfusion & I was getting discharged, heart rate returned back to normal.

Once discharged, I was find. Pain was tolerable. Energy returned to normal at week 5. Because I didn't want to end up back in the hospital again, I followed my doctor's rules to the T and had no difficulties at all.

Overall, very very satisfied. I am happy & healthy which was my goal.

Now the perks, OMG!!! I love the new me, I love buying new smaller clothes & really really love the extra attention from my husband.

So glad I did this.

I would guess that most on this forum would admit to being at least a little scared. Heck' date=' I worry every time I board an airplane that it might go down, but I still get on.

Your Dr. Will run a lot of tests to find anything that might cause a problem. Try to relax and think about your new future. You are in good hands, I'm sure.[/quote']

Haha that's funny, I do the same thing when I'm going away.

I have a 2 year old. I did it because I feel I've robbed him enough "playtime"with mom. I don't want to sit on the sideline of his life. I don't want to be a prisoner in my own body.

I was very very very scared. I've always thought I was one of those people that wouldn't take the "easy"way out. This is the hardest way to do it.it took years to finally say yes and months to wrap my brain around it. It took years of my family begging me to do this before I even considered it.

I was just sleeved this past Monday, I can't say how great my life is since doing it, but I feel stronger than ever having made this decision. Life will keep going, it's up to you to decide where you want to spend it....on the court, or on the sideline.

Hugs.

I'm feeling good, thank you for asking. Just a bit sore at the main incision and trying hard to keep my liquids down.

My surgery went well. The first night was rough, but mostly because I was getting over a cold when I went into surgery that seems to have come back with a vengeance the moment I entered the hospital, lol. Coughing and trapped gas don't mix.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
