2013 November Sleevers

Recommended Posts

My surgery is Nov 7th in Greenville SC

I have completed all appointments and test. I only have to do my 4 week Opti Fast diet and get final blood work done the week of surgery.

I am so ready I hope October doesn't drag by!

Congrats to all the November sleevers! I am a newbie on this site and have gone through 9 months of required weekly meetings, tests, etc. Finally see the surgeon next Friday and his staff have already assigned me Nov. 13th. Woo hoo!

Longest process but one I am not taking lightly. Ten years of going back and forth and not wanting to "take the "easy" way out" LOL! What a joke now that I have done this process. Easy my you-know-what! So ready for this :D

Thinking I will probably be in November. I have completed one of the three monthly classes, a sleep study, and bloodwork...cardiac clearance is scheduled for Oct 28th, and EGD and psych consult haven't been scheduled yet. My last nutrition class is 11/7/13 and I'm hoping to have everything done by then. I actually am going to try and get my insurance to waive the 3 month diet because my BMI is over 50 and I am currently on medical leave for work for another reason and don't know if I'll be able to take another leave. If I can then I will maybe be an October sleever! If not, probably January, because I had to give up all my vacation time for this medical leave :( I am in Dallas, TX and my surgeon is Dr. Kim.

November 5th for me..just scheduled today with Dr. Ganta in the ATX. Band to sleeve revision. Still waiting on insurance approval but it should be pretty easy as my insurance rocks and the band slipped.

My company has set up an apartment on Parmer. A few exits from grand parkway exit on 35. My sister and mother live in Austin and I am excited about getting closer to them. I will let you know how it goes. Lol that is my fear too. It won't be long now.

I work right off parmer and 35.

Yep, they really are.

Do you know what type of pre-op diet he wants you to do? I guess i'll hear about all that on the 25th of October. I'm guessing liquids for two weeks. It's better than the month I had to do before the band surgery.

I haven't read one bad thing about him. I like the feeling that I can ask him anything and he tells you all angles and explains everything very well and is very thorough. I may go with RNY...still debating. For now I told him schedule the sleeve.

No idea about what pre-op diet yet , just have the papers from Amita on the two different type of pre-op diet. I am hoping for liquid, don't want to count what I am eating and worry if I miss up pre-op diet.

I've done liquids for a month...the first few days are rough but after that it's pretty easy, at least for me it was. Just think of the end results and it really is all in your mind. I did have to take something to knock me out at night to sleep. lol

The Protein shakes I took 5 per day were Optifast, and they were pretty good. I've tried other brands and they are nasty. I don't think Ganta's office sells them, so i'm going to have to find some. I've seen them on Amazon.com and will prob do that. They are expensive though :(

Let me know when you find out on the pre-op diet. I've never heard of one involving food.... do you have any idea what that is? I would prob stick to liquids also...

I will be officially going in for surgery on November 13th I am from Ohio and going to Dr. Zografakis. I start my liquid diet Monday and have to do that for 6 weeks. I know I can pull it off, but I just have to stay focused. It will be tough.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
