Put your thinking caps on cos this is a doozy

As some of you already know - my surgery date is October 5th in Tijuana with Dr Illan. I plan to start my pre op diet Sunday.

Approximately 10-12 days ago I started experiencing some really unusual stuff.

First and foremost, my appetite has gone, poof - outta there - disappeared. This is HIGHLY unusual - I am an emotional eater so you would think pre op stress - eat eat eat - but no, I get up in the morning, not hungry, lunch, not hungry and on and on.

I cooked myself my fave meal (curry) I did not eat any of it - packed into a rubbermaid and in the fridge, simply not interested. I also have an unopened bag of Kit Kat chocolate in the fridge keeping the curry company.

This is utterly baffling to me - believe me, I am not consciously doing anything to be like this.

While I'm confessing to weird behavior, here's one more thing - when I go to my closet, I have a split second of thinking that one of my smaller pairs of jeans will fit me (as if I have already had the surgery) no kidding - I know that's odd isn't it.

Has anyone had any of these weird things happen to them pre op ?

I am still pre op and yes, I have days where I feel I have already been sleeved. Not because I have no hunger or appetite. But because my MIND is changing. I think one of the keys to success with this is to commit to it with your whole heart and soul. So, in the mean time, your mind may already be ahead of your reality! It's all good, a few extra lbs gone pre op are not there to lose later!!!!!

Hi Roo, that's great! I think that's your mind and body is just getting ready for what's to come. I believe your mind knows this is it and it's just going through training. I'm doing the same in regards to watching what I eat, lots & lots of fluids, taking my Vitamins and so far I have lost 9lbs in two weeks. I'm not hungry and didn't even pig-out during my menstrual cycle! My surgery is November 4th and I can't wait.

Well, I wish you the best on Oct 5th, I know you will do great

P.S. Throw away that Kit Kat candy bar , we won't be needing that anymore. Instead but your skinny jeans in the fridge as a reminder to you what we will soon achieve and I will do the same with my skinny jeans.

God bless.

Omg, I was thinking I was the only one. My surgery is still 5 weeks away and lately I'm finding that I really only want to eat Protein, primarily liquid. Certain foods are making me nausios (that never happens) and wait... You'll love this... I'm even getting heartburn or acid reflux (haven't had that since my last pregnancy, 21 yrs ago).

I was thinking I'm having sympathy pains for all the other ppl in the forum, lol.

But as another poster said: it's our minds and body's changing... Getting ready for our new lives! Crazy, eh ? Good luck on your special day.

I have been doing the same thing! I made it a choice to go ahead and start eating low carb so I can get used to it slowly and also jump start weight loss. Of course, cutting out most of the carbs has kept the cravings at bay. I also started taking my Vitamins again and taking magnesium (which cuts my chocolate cravings). Now I haven't thought I could fit in any old clothes yet so that is just you LOL!! I do agree though that since I made the decision to do the surgery my mind has started to prepare for it plus I am not stressing about my food choices now. I know its gonna come off with my efforts! Normally I would stress over it. We bought holloween candy last night-2 big costco bags. Normally I would have opened it and had at least one but nope! :) By the way, I just gave alma my deposit and I am looking at flights so I officially will see you next week!! My date is officially the 4th so I should be sleeved by the time you get to the hospital :) Yay me

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
