Week 2 - Weight Gain - How do I not focus on the #?

Recommended Posts

Hello - I was sleeved on 9/10 and so far my recovery has been right on par. Everything I expected to happen, happened (THANK GOD FOR THIS WEBSITE!!) and every day I saw drastic improvements in how much Protein I was able to get in, fluids, etc. Small victories, but exciting nonetheless. In addition to quitting medicine for Diabetes Type II and Hypertension (yea, kicked them in the a**)... I've quit smoking and quit caffeine (I am also a recovering drug/alcohol addict with almost 3 years sober). So, I have a LOT to be grateful for and proud of. But, I have a lot of fear and anxiety that "it wont happen." Anyone else have this post-op? I even gained 3 lbs when I switched from Clear liquids to full liquids. I'm still getting less than 600 calories a day, 70+ grams of Protein and as much Water as I can. Is this normal? How can I not focus on the # glaring back at me from the scale?

Thanks!

You are healing from major surgery, and during your hospital they added a LOT of fluids (remember the IV?). I did not lose for the first 2 and 1/2 weeks, but have slowly dropped after that. It'll all work out all right, just stay on your program!

I hit a ten day stall and gained two pounds as soon as I started full liquids. But then it started coming back off again. You have to try to look at the long term instead of the day to day weigh-ins.

I was sleeved the same day! One week in I was up 2 pounds and I told the scale "well, **** you then!" I waited a couple days to get back on. It has since come back off plus a pound. Probably out of fear. I've always lost weight like that so I guess I have to expect that now as well.

I think what you are seeing is very normal in the early stages. I hit a 2 week stall at week 3 / 4 while my body healed from the surgery and I was figuring out how to get the Protein, Water and calories in. Hang in there, follow your doctor's instructions and everything will work out in the end!

Thanks for all the great feedback! I know I am worrying over nothing. I am seeing that some people only weigh weekly, and I might try that too.

Yes.. a weekly weight is a great idea. Don't panic if you don't see movement. At some point you will hit a stall. Just stick to the plan, stay hydrated and you'll do great. Keep us posted.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
