Did your tastes change after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I have a friend who's had the sleeve and she said her tastes have changed. She didn't like sweets prior to surgery but now she does.

I've also read that could happen. What has been your experience? Thanks!

Mine was the opposite. No interest in candy now...and hardly any interest in fruit or salad (I used to eat salad like a hippo would)...however, I think that this is more a result of eating pretty much only Protein for a couple of years. On the other side...I will kill for anything salty!

Nope. No change. I just keep very controlled in terms of intake... liquid, Protein, veggies. I can't trust my head with simple carbs... ONE is both not quite enough and far too much as well...

Only taste that has changed is that I use to love tea, but now I just don't like the taste. It has a metallic taste now (to me).

My tastes have definitely changed! Some things I used to LOVE I cant stand the thought, look, or smell of! Ive gotten so used to low/no calorie sweeteners I cant stand how sweet regular sugar is. No desire for sweets, cakes, candy ect. I didnt really like seafood before, now thats all i really eat, shrimp, tilapia, salmon. Its so weird....

My tastes changed temporarily. In the first few months after surgery, many of the things I used to love were nauseating to even think about. Other foods that I hated I started really liking. After about six months though, most of my old likes and dislikes returned. It was bizarre.

I've had some changes. I used to love coconut, now I don't really care for it very much. I used to prefer vanilla or strawberry to chocolate, now I prefer chocolate. Didn't used to like eggs, now I love them. Overall I think I generally prefer savory foods to sweet now, and I used to have a major sweet tooth and would eat candy and Cookies all day if/when I could. But the biggest change is just not needing or wanting to eat all the time, or to eat non-healthy foods.

I'm not too far out, but the only difference I've noticed is sweet things taste MUCH sweeter than they used to. I think they gave me regular Jell-O at the hospital and I could NOT choke it down. It just tasted way too sweet.

Very changed! I used to like sweets and now, not so much, even chocolate. I also never liked fish much and now I like it a lot, especially tuna salad, which I never ate before. I lost my interest in coffee. I really like savory and salty things now. Don't even care for wine like I did before.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
