band removal

Recommended Posts

I know the band has been a wonderful tool to many people. It just hasn't been a great tool for me, and I would like to have it removed. Has anyone else had their band removed? What was your experience?

What hasn't worked for you? Why do you want it removed?

This journey isn't always easy and we all lose at different paces, but even though I've been a slower loser I am so grateful for every pound. I also have had to deal with the frustrations and even discomfort at times but to me it's worth it. I wish you the best in your decision. Just make sure you consider it well and weight the pros and cons. I don't ever want to give my band up no matter what.

I am curious as to the problems you have encountered as well and what has caused you to decide to have it removed.

I got my band last April and have been very pleased with it. I have been losing the recommended 1-2 pounds per week since reaching restriction in July. I too have experienced the occasional discomfort, but nothing that would make me regret having the band.

I am so sorry that this is not working out for you.

I have several reasons for wanting to take the band out. I need to take Celebrex, which is not good for the band. I can barely get fluids down in the morning, much less any Breakfast, because the band is too tight. I spend the rest of the day grazing because I am so hungry from not being able to eat in the morning. By noon I am usually OK, but not always. I could go on, but I really just want it out.

I have only had one fill, and it was over a year ago. It made no difference.:cry I think physiologically I am just not meant to have the band. I'm not sad about it. Having it removed will just be inconvenient and expensive. Oh well.

If you thought it out and investigated all options and have decided the band is not for you, then you know best what's right for you. Good luck to you with the surgery and in your weight loss efforts.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
