Dont know what to eat :(

Hello Everyone,

I am 2 months post out tomorrow ... I feel like what I'm eating is not good ... Nothing I eat makes me feel bad unless I eat too fast, which is a plus. It kind of nervous because I really don't know what to eat sometimes and worry I don't eat enough because I don't want to make a bad choice. I'm no longer seeing a NUT my Doctor doesn't require me too . Just feeling lost don't know what to way how much too eat ... Not good with recipes :( someone please help!

Have you gone to theworldaccordingtoeggface.com? She has kick'en recipes. They all look yummy and easy to make. I'm only 16 days post op and I'm really looking forward to making her "bites".

Yep, World According To Eggface is the way to go! Shelley is a WLS person herself, and she has developed TONS of bariatric-friendly recipes that are fantastic! In fact, I just made her pumpkin Ricotta Praline Bake and I am eating it right now - DELICIOUS!!! Low cal, low carb, high Protein - and super good!!

Here is what I am doing.

1. Start tracking everything you eat, in myfitness pal or some other app.

2. I am trying to eat between 600-700 calories every day with 80 gms of Protein

3. To get that much Protein, i have to eat my protein first.

4. Limit carbs to 40

5. Limit fats to 27

6. Get 10 gms of Fiber a day from Fiber gummies, benefiber, fruit, or vegetables.

The only way to do this with a small stomach is to eat a lot of meat, cheese, egg, greek yogurt, fish, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, chicken, turkey etc.

So maybe you should just think of simple ways to make eggs, chicken, ground beef, and baked fish, and then have the other things ready made (yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, skim milk, etc.).

I am with Gamergirl - keep it simple, you are only two months out and if you go with that, you won't go far wrong. Nothing much makes me feel ill either but strangely that still makes me cautious about my food choices.

So Protein first, turkey, chicken, tuna, fish, eggs, cheese are all good as the heart of a meal. I made omelettes with cheese, bought smoked fish and turned my ground beef into mild chilli. I am no cook so am with you on the recipes thing - but I recognised that I had to try to make my food a bit interesting or I would slip back into eating whatever was to hand and easy.

Good luck, you made a good choice being sleeved, keep breathing and relax, won't be long til you are more used to the new normal and you might look back and wonder why you were concerned :-)

tuna salad is the easiest thing to make and easy on your tummy. Take a small can of Water pack tuna, drain, add a spoonful of fat free mayo and a spoonful of dill relish. Mix and eat! Lots of Protein. I can only eat half at a time.

At home, if you are mostly cooking for yourself, look for Protein foods that are easy to prepare and reheat or cook in small portions. I get a costco rotisserie chicken and use the meat in lots of different ways. In stir fry, with BBQ Sauce, or mixed with a tiny bit of mayo and chopped celery. I can't eat the whole chicken before it spoils, so I pull the meat off and bag it in portions and freeze. Frozen shrimp are good too because you can shake out just as many as you want. I also portion ground beef and bag and freeze. I like frozen veggies for the same reason. I also eat lots of lunch meat, greek yogurt, and I have soy milk. Canned low fat chili was another early fav of mine.

If you are cooking for your family, just make sure your meal includes a dense Protein. They can eat everything else and you will be able to measure out your protein and have a bite or two of other dishes you make for dinner. So, for example, if you make a stir fry for dinner, add a few extra ounces of meat, fish. or poultry. Scoop out the protein for your meal portion before serving the family.

If you're two months out, you are slowly but surely incorporating regular foods into your diet. My 'go to' foods back then, and to some extent, now, over three years later are:

* eggs

* 1% cottage cheese

* canned tuna in Water

* deli lunch meat

* bagged frozen shrimp

That said, I ate nothing that I didn't deem "good for me" - no bread, Pasta or rice. Nothing sweet or fried. fruit, my dietitian said to consider it a 'treat', only a couple of times a week. I would eat a third of a small banana or about a fourth of a small peach, every so often, very seldom. My caloric intake was low, a couple of months out, maybe 400 calories and could eat a little more each month, therefore my calories went up. Month six, when I hit goal, I was getting between 700 and 800, never more than 800 calories. I maintain at 1300 per day.

I like grilled chicken, pork chops, hamburger and steak, but inside, I will cook chicken, lean pork chops or round steak in a can of 98% fat free cream of mushroom or cream of chicken Soup. (and a can of water) You have 'gravy' and cooking it in the Soup, makes the meat softer, easier to eat. I weigh and/or measure EVERYTHING. I know how much I can hold and I make sure to try and under eat my sleeve. It's good for weight loss and good to ensure not eating 'one bite too many' and being uncomfortable.

I will have a bite or two of a veggie, and try and include cottage cheese, as a side, for dinner most nights. Many times I will eat cottage cheese for Breakfast. I call it the REAL Breakfast of champions!!! :)

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

      Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
      Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
      A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.

      I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
      Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
