Do you still get hungry?

Recommended Posts

At the seminar I was told that the portion of your stomach that tells your brain you're hungry will be removed, and because of this you will never be hungry again. He also said that some of his clients even forget to eat sometimes. From your experience, do you believe this to be true? Do you still get hungry?

I was told that to in one of the seminars i took. Im 3 weeks post op and yes i get hungry (im hungry right now) . I can tell you its nothing like my hunger was before. My portions are are less than half of what they used to be. I have noticed on days when my Protein intake is where it should be, i'll go for HOURS without being hungry and will need to remind myself that I havent had anything in a while. Today i was in a hurry and left my Protein Drinks at home :( and Water is just not cutting it. So i wouldnt say it completely removes hunger for everyone but it has helped cut down on cravings and my food intake.

It is removed, but your stomach adapts and that feeling will usually come back.

Yes, I get hungry every day. I'm 3.5 months out. I'm good for a few hours after I eat, then I feel hungry. Sometimes its intense. I think I'll have to be one that eats 5 small meals a day vs. the 3 meals they were encouraging.

I'm almost 2.5 months out, and I don't experience real hunger. I do notice a sensation of "empty" if I don't eat for several hours, but it's nothing like hunger, it's probably more like the sensation I get when my blood sugar is low.

That said, remember that grehlin (the hunger hormone) is not JUST produced by your stomach. That is just where most of it is produced. It is possible that you can still be hungry. If you aren't hungry, it's fairly likely that at least some hunger may reemerge sometime down the line.

Im only 4 weeks out, but Im never hungry and I do forget to eat. As a matter of fact, I had to set alarms on my phone to remember to eat during the day. I hear this changes for some and continues for others - I hope it continues for me!!

I'm 6 weeks out and I definitely get hungry. But it's for real food, not something that tastes good, and once I eat a little, I'm not hungry anymore for the next 3 hours. So yes it's hunger, but not the sort of mad ravening hunger that made me feel like a wolf on the prowl for some hapless prey, like I used to get before surgery. Pre surgery i would sometimes get SO hungry that I'd eat something and then I'd still be hungry so I'd eat something ELSE. I don't have that right now.

I guess I'll take it!

I'm same as gamergirl. I'm hungry, but I'm not RAVENOUS like I used to be. For me, I get hungry and eat about 5 times a day. Just a little bit at each setting. For example, today:

Morning - 9am: Protein drink

Snack: 11am. 1/2 c. cottage cheese

Lunch: 1pm. 1/2 c. refried Beans with 1/8 cup light cheese; Dannon light greek yogurt

Snack: 5pm. GNC pudding

Right now, I've already had 85g Protein and 730 cal. I'll have something light for dinner.

Now.... that said, every two hours, I'm hungry!

Do you get full off these small meals? Do they satisfy you? And what would your dinner probably be?... OK now I'm really starting to sound like a fat person LOL!!

For dinner, I'm planning to have some imitation crab with cocktail sauce. I'll probably eat about 3 oz. which is another 6g Protein and 70 calories. I'll be hungry again around bedtime, but then I'll go to bed...! :)

And as far as being satisfied... yes and no. Like I said, I'm truly hungry every 2 hours. I guess I \ have just changed the way I look at food. Unfortunately, I'm NOT one of those people who lost my cravings for carbs. I'd LOVE to have something sweet and I have to consciously keep myself away from that stuff (it's like crack to me...)

Trust me, I still think like a fat girl and, as before sleeve, I spend a lot of time thinking about what I will eat and planning on what I will eat. I just don't spend as much time actually eating... HAHAHA!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
