I just came from my upper GI (YUK) and they told me I had a hiatal hernia. They also said this may impact whether I have the surgery or not. Feeling very frustrated! Has anyone incurred this? TIA

Who is the "they" that told you that you had a hernia? Did they say it could prevent the surgey, or impact it? Either way don't worry too much. Just find a doctor that will repair the hernia and do the surgery at the same time.

I had a hernia too and they fixed it when they did my surgery. Just had mine done on 9/5/13.

"They" was the Dr who did the procedure. Thank you everyone - I now have a bit of hope!

I had one too. However mine could not be totally fixed. I'm part of the 5% of people who have some vein in the way..

When I had my endoscopy they saw one but when my surgeon was doing my surgery it was nowhere to be found. I was told this is common in some cases. When they opened me up there was nothing to repair!

Any idea how long it lengthened the surgery time?

My surgeon says nearly 80% of his WLS patients have a hiatal hernia. If doing bypass, it isn't necessary to fix, but for VSG it is...however not a big deal in his book..mine didn't show up on upper GI, but I had a "decent size one" when they got in there, think it added about an additional 30 min toy surgery time

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
