August sleevers progress

Recommended Posts

Interesting conversations!

I was sleeved 8/26- and gained two pounds over the last week-

I'm feeling a lot more hunger now and though I've been exercising I haven't gotten rid of those 2 pounds!

I wonder if I have to up my calories; I'm at about 700-800 cal/day-

I find myself being able to eat more than what I think I should be eating- at least more than what others talk about on the thread and it worries me-

This is a journey of trial and error for sure!

It might be worth a try. I'd call your nut and see where they want you.

But I'm with ya. I feel different all the sudden. Not sure if it's TOM or not. I didn't miss eating at all but I find lately I'm thinking about it and hungry it seems. I'm positive it head hunger right now. I still don't "feel" hungry if that makes since. I eat when I know I should. I have to pre plan my day on MFP!!

So how much is everyone eating portion wise 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, or a cup per meal?

Soft food like cottage cheese, 1/2 cup. chicken or beef, maybe 2 oz. Fish, maybe 3 oz. I can get down a couple of bites of veg after my Protein, but not much. i still need Protein Shakes to meet my protein goals.

Wow you and I said almost the same thing, makes me feel normal! Yeah most days I ned at least 2 shakes to hit my 60-70 gms of protein too and if I eat veggies, def not enough room for all the protein I need.

Yeah, GG, we are definitely paralleling. :)

I'd be afraid to eat more calories. My BMR is so low, I think I would stop losing.

Me too! Even with 700 I'm barely averaging 1.5 lbs a week. If I ate any more, I think I'd stall forever.

Just checking in......My doctor's appointment went great.....although he's a little concerned that I can't eat more than 1.5 ounces or 1/2 a scrambled egg....anything more I'm just too full and it hurts----I wasn't worried about it, I supplement with Protein drinks.......figured in a year the restriction will lessen, so make the most of it now.......we may do a barium swallow test in January to see what's going on.....he said the restriction may be too much.......I hope not.....I'm a happy camper right now....

liquids and moist foods go down well.....but I don't do well with thick Protein Shakes like Bariatric Advantage (left over from preop---finally tossed the rest out, just can't drink it).....making good use of the crock pot, and freezing it in small portions.....

This conversation makes me a little nervous. I feel like I can eat a lot more than you gals. I can eat about 3-4 oz. of shredded chicken, ground beef, etc. with no issues at all. I'm not overly-stuffed afterwards, but comfortable. I think I have one of those "sleeves of steel" I read about on here. I have tried pretty much everything and haven't had any issues so far. The good news is my hunger hasn't really returned yet, so I just measure out my 3 oz. and eat them throughout the day as scheduled.

I use FatSecret to track, but may switch over to MFP so I can follow you guys and see what your intake is like. I worry I'm getting in too many calories throughout the day (range from 700-1,000 depending on what I eat and how hard I work out). I'm down about 70 pounds since surgery on 8/15. I do fall off the wagon here and there (the last 4 days being a prime example). Luckily they are far and few between, but would like to try and cut out these "episodes" entirely.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
