August sleevers progress

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Good to hear how y'all are doing.

Things are going well for me. How much I can eat each day varies for me too, but usually around 800 calories. Some days I just don't feel like eating and get in 500-600. Lately I started working out with a trainer and have had a few days where I was actually hungry (nothing like pre-surgery though) and ate 900-1000 calories. I needed to make use of more veggies to fill myself up after I got my Protein in.

I still can only eat half a cup of food at a sitting. Protein: maybe 2-3 ounces, then a couple of bites of veg. I have my 3 meals a day plus a snack midmorning and midafternoon.

Have had some stalls along the way, but never more than a few weeks. Even during stalls I still lost inches.

My biggest problem is eating slowly. That is the worst habit to break and I wasn't even a speed eater to start with.

Oh that's really good! I've also been eating a little faster but never really had that issue post sx. I should measure myself again its been months. :) sheesh protein wise I can eat 4 oz of something's. and an ounce or so of veggies!

I just found out I gained weight! WTF I was 173 now (I've been weighing daily and I need to stop!) I weigh 175. Gawd not what I need right now! I feel yucky this morning!

I need to revaluate my foods I guess. Even though I'm not eating any different. Or maybe I need to just relax lol

Oh thank god lol I totally thought I was eating so much more than I should. :)

I can definitely get 5 oz. down of ground beef and about 4 oz. of shredded chicken breast. I get so anxious when I read people who are like a year out and only able to get in 2-3 in! Relieved to hear others are in the same boat!

I'M SO RELIVED I'm not alone!! :) I'm the same! I weigh food each meal and I've started to weigh it to 5 oz. So for example last night I made California Avocado Mango Chicken salad.....so chicken mix was 5 oz of Diced mango diced avocado diced red onion and chicken. plus about 1 ounce or less of greens with 1 1/2 table spoon of vinaigrette.

Do ya'll think that sounds about how much ya'll eat?

I honestly don't think so? Do you work out a lot? Like the poster above said, when I work out hard I notice I am much hungrier throughout the day.

Yesterday I had 4.5 oz. of shredded chicken with 1/4 c. of cheese on it. I definitely was not full. I usually have an orange later in the afternoon, but that sucker came out like an hour after I ate.

I haven't worked out in 2.5 months!!! Gawd!! I have a recurring leg (groin) strain! So annoying. I wish I could be active again. I mean sheesh I just lost the weight so I can move around with ease and chase my 3 year old.

Hi Everyone!

My stats are below....just follow the dancing butterfly. LOL

My weight loss has been stagnant for about a month and a half......have not gained an ounce, have not lost an ounce........BUT have gone down 2 sizes during this time..........and still LOVE my sleeve.

The other day I tried on size 16.........and they fit, loosely.....tried on the 14's.....knowing full well they wouldn't fit.............but they do!!!!! had some bloodwork done, and my liver function tests and blood sugar are all within normal ranges......couldn't be happier.

I haven't been this size in 25+ years......and there were times I could not imagine I would ever be in a size large again......this tool of ours has given me such hope that a healthy BMI is attainable..............Happy new year everyone! Thank you so much for sharing your progress!

UGH that is the worst! I'm sorry you're going through this! It will come with time, I promise. You're smart for just letting it heal. But seriously, losing that much weight without being able to exercise for half the time is AMAZING!

Fack!....Well I weigh daily now and It's going to go back to once a week I cant handle seeing that freaking number go up! I don't get it. I'm still plugging away at my normal eating ect...This would be my first real stall.

I Weigh only weekly because the daily fluctuations make me crazy. They are completely normal. If I eat Asian food I'm up a couple of pounds the next day due to Water.< /p>

I thought I read somewhere that a stall is officially three weeks or more. So maybe you aren't stalling, just readjusting :).

I have been stuck for a while, too! I have been trying to intensify my workout, add more Water and be more strict about my diet. This is the first stall I have had so I am trying to stay positive. 83 pounds gone...but hope there is more to come!!

I noticed that weight loss is slowing down quiet a bit. Where I used to see 5 pounds gone a week, now I see only 1 pound. No real change to eating except added Almonds as Snacks, but still keep calories under 900 a day Protein above 60. Water 60 oz a day or more. So maybe we should all look at the fact we are 5 months out and we have all lost a lot of weight and our bodies are adjusting. I am also thinking we need to up our calories for about a week to reset our metabolisms so it can reve up a bit. I am scared to try it as I think might gain some weight, but if you stay on low calories long enough your body adjust to the low calories and goes into save weight mode. I am wondering if anyone who is down the road a bit longer than us Aug. sleevers might shed some light on this slow down phenonmena. I am now down 75 pounds in 5 months. Today is the 5 month anniversary of my new stomach. Only 35 more pounds to go.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
